Having a Waterfall right outside your back door is a magical thing indeed! 😊 Ahhh the southing sights & sounds… BUT, when it quits running, it’s NEVER at an opportune moment! No indeed! Your either out of town, or it’s scorching HOT 🥵 and your fish are gasping for air, or it’s winter and your pond freezes solid… Your Pond Pump Never goes out at an opportune moment!
Your Waterfall serves many purposes. It’s the central focal point of the Feature, but it also aerates the pond and circulates the water, VERY important for your aquatic life. If your Pond Pump is out, ALL of this stops…
Your Pump is the heart of your Pond! When it stops running, it’s important to have a backup plan! Many people keep a small pump that can be placed in shallow water to “flash the surface” , this will help to keep oxygen in the water while you get a replacement Pond Pump to power your Waterfall.
Pond Pumps come in different shapes and sizes! It’s a great idea to have a backup pump in case of an outage! It could save your sanity and you’re Koi’s life. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
Many of my clients also have an aeration system in their Pond. This helps to oxygenate the water and it’s unlikely that the pump and the aeration system will fail at the same time. I recommend powering them on separate circuits in case of GFCI interruptions.
Having an Aeration System on your Pond is a great way to maintain oxygen levels for your finned friends. Plug your system into a different outlet & circuit than your pump for even more assurance.

I was sitting in my boat at the marina yesterday and I got into a conversation with a fellow in the next slip. I had never met him before, but it was like we were old friends. He told me about his uncle who went off to Vietnam when he was 18 years old. He was killed in action after 4 months and they sent his body back home. As he was telling the story his voice broke a bit & I think he started to tear up… He had followed him around as a young boy and his uncle was his childhood hero, lost to a war that he didn’t understand. He said ‘That is what Memorial Day is all about’! Paying respect to the good people who paid the ultimate price for our freedom! The real hero’s, who ‘Gave All’… We can never forget their sacrifice.

It’s time to feed the fish 🙂 Try something different. Koi LOVE fresh fruit and veggies!
Try it yourselves. If you haven’t feed them like this before, it will take a few times for them to catch on. But once they do, look 👀 out!
Try –
Softened carrot pieces, lettuce, watermelon 🍉, cantaloupe 🍈, oranges 🍊, grapefruit & grapes 🍇 These are all great treats and give needed vitamins and minerals.
Ours LOVE watermelon 🍉! After we eat the heart of the melon, we turn each half upside down floating in the pond, and man do they go to work! When they get through, there is nothing left but the outer skin 👀
Koi Love to be hand fed! If yours aren’t eating from your hand yet, try some of these Koi Snacks and have patience, it takes a little while to win them over, but once you do, it will have been worth the effort 😊
