I just got back from a yearly Symposium that we attend every year in Chicago. Pondemonium is the name of the event, it’s the Largest Water Garden Event of it’s type in the country and I wanted to share a very proud moment from one of the meetings we had there.

My nephew Nick is a Boy Scout, a very good one too! He is working on his Eagle Scout Project now, which is very important to him. Nick has chosen a local school to work with on his Eagle Project and he is to install a “Teaching Pond” on their grounds. This Teaching Pond will benefit kids for generations to come! It will be an aid to teaching everything from Ecology and Science to Biology and Art! I am sure growing up around the Nursery with all the Ponds and Water Gardens helped mold his passions for Ponds but I thought it was AWESOME that he choose to do something like this for his project. Nick started raising money to fund the project several months ago and has done a pretty good job. In his fund raising efforts he sent a letter to a colleague of mine named Greg Whittstock. Greg is the same guy who organizes and puts on the Pondemonium event I mentioned earlier….. Long story short – Greg responded to his letter with an invitation to this event in Chicago and Nick made the trip with me. Greg got Nick up on the stage in front a large crowd and had him tell the story of his Eagle Project. It was a HUGE hit! He got a standing ovation from the crowd of hundreds AND Greg did even more…. Greg gave Nick a complete Pond Kit as a donation to build his Eagle Project!!! WOW!!! This put him over the top on needed supplies and money and his project is NOW ready to go in!

I am so proud of Nick! Very few boys have the gumption now days to even join the Scouts and fewer put in the time and effort to make it to Eagle Scout! Good job Nick. AND THANK YOU GREG, YOU DA’ MAN!
