Pond cleaning season is coming quick! Give me a call at the Nursery to get your name on the schedule to insure a clean pond in time for the Spring!
Capture & carefully place the fish in tanks and then thoroughly clean, remove debris, straiten up rocks & gravel and wash the pond down thoroughly. Clean filters & inspect pump & check valve. And don’t forget to dose the new water with Pond detox.

#Throwbackthursday is always a cool day! Focusing on something or someone from the past. I have been in my boxes of old photos yet again 😊 And found a few more pics of my Papaw. He was a really cool guy! He loved and excelled at hunting and fishing. He loved treasure hunting with his old metal detector! And he Loved his dog – Bandit!
Bandit was my Papaws favorite English Bulldog! He was from a pedigreed line of Champions & took Best of Show every time!
My aunt Mickie was from Orange County California. She brought a champion female from Cali home to my Papaw & Mimi to breed. Bandit was from one of those litters of pups. In fact, he was the runt of a litter & Papaw just fell in love with him. Most of Bandits brothers and sisters were purchased by Marine Corp officers and the like and moved far away… One of Bandits brothers went to my other Grandfather, his name was John Boy (a story for another day😊).

I ❤️ blueberries! I eat them most everyday! They are great in oatmeal, cereal, salads, smoothies, pies, Ad infinitum… Blueberries rock!!! They are also a native fruit that grows well in many areas.

Here in the South with our long growing season & plentiful rainfall, growing blueberries is a ‘no-brainer’… Sure, I plant them in the field or around the orchard, but I also LOVE to use them as ornamental Landscape plantings! They make great fill in plants along a sunny foundation or a backdrop for a bird feeding area or even as a screening hedge! Blueberries are Very versatile 😊
Tips for Growing –
– One of the most important things to remember when growing blueberries is that they demand a very low PH (acidic 4.5 – 5.5 or so) to grow well & thrive. So yearly you have to check PH and add an acidifier like Sulfur, Aluminum Sulfate, Ammonium Sulfate, etc… I usually opt for the organic sulfur because I am eating these 🙂 AND, I think it gives a better, sweeter taste.
I recommend using an Organic Acidifier (Sulfur) to keep the PH low. This will make for healthy, vigorous Blueberries, that just taste great! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN
– If your planting Blueberries in our area, initial soil prep is key! Build up beds a little to aid in drainage. Till in some sand, peat and organic compost. Apply sulfur as needed based on PH test.
– Planting the right variety is huge!
Always choose Southern Rabbit eye varieties for success in W. TN. A few of my favorites are – Premier, Tifblue, Powder Blue & Climax. Fertilize with an organic fertilizer for fruit in late Winter/early Spring. Then I feed several times throughout the season with an organic compost tea and side dress mid season with a little composted manure. Mulching is very important too! Try crushed pine bark or pine needles. Both are acidic and work well.

What a beautiful morning! This picture says it all – a Beautiful sunrise under a bank of invading clouds. The rain is coming, but not before the Sunrise. No longer than I got my picture, the rain got here. Feels like Spring 😊
The cloud bank was almost all the way in, but the Sunrise beat it! So beautiful. Behind me, the rain was coming.
Most of us work for a living. Like that old song, “Working 9 to 5”… Monday thru Friday, to make a living! In many ways Saturday and Sunday are our reward. There are only 52 Saturday’s and 52 Sunday’s in a year.. And Sunday belongs to the Lord! That makes Saturday VERY valuable! You don’t want to waste one if you can help it😊 I’ll tell ya’, Saturday is an institution around here! And, they ain’t cheap! 💥

I’ll keep it short and sweet this morning – I just watched a perfect Sunrise, had a great breakfast & now I’m headed out! Planning on wrapping it up with a killer Sunset from a special spot & enjoying a cool ‘Saturday Night’! Boom 💥 Hope y’all can do the same 😊

My son recently turned 18. LOTS of memories and emotions have been bubbling up 😭 one thing that I keep finding is pictures of him in and around the ponds & waterfalls. He simply LOVES them! So this one is my offering for Throwback Thursday.
Jacob has loved Koi and ponds since birth I think 😊 This was taken at the dedication to this teaching pond at a local school 16 or so years ago. This picture ended up on the “Ponds for Kids” booklet that promotes Ponds in schools. #Throwbackthursday
He was 2 in this picture 😊 This “Teaching Pond” is still being used to inspire and teach youngsters about science, ecology & even art. A BIG shoutout to the great educators that were and still are responsible for this school pond happening! Steve, Elizabeth & Christine – Y’all Rock! Keep up the good work!
2020 is humming right along & its #waterfallwednesday again! Since it’s a newish year, here’s a waterfall we were running a “first run test” on. It turned out great! So great in fact, I plan to do a whole story with a video on this feature at a later date. But for now, here’s to #waterfallwednesday!
