Hump Day Koi Fix | The Very Scary ‘Ghost 👻 Koi’ | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

It’s October kids, and we are quickly approaching Halloween 🎃 What a perfect time to discuss the scariest of all fish – The Ghost Koi!

The Ghost koi has gained some popularity in the last few years, but many “Koi people” still do not recognize them as a true koi! – they are refereed to as Ghost carp instead.

The “Ghost Koi” is a product of breeding a mirror carp with a metallic Ogon Koi. For this reason many Koi purists don’t consider them a true “Koi”…

They are a very hardy fish and much less susceptible to diseases than most. They also grow extremely fast! Both of these traits make them a great first Koi!

Ghost Koi don’t have a lot of markings like other Koi so their beauty comes from their shining metallic scales! Their colors can vary from dark to cream to silver and even golden. The head is generally creamy and the body colors will widely vary, depending greatly on the parents color.

I guess what I’m saying is, even though they have a scary name, & the fact that it is almost Halloween – Don’t be wary of the Ghost Koi! They are really pretty cool

Waterfall Wednesday | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Don’t blink, it’s #Waterfallwednesday again 😊 We are into our second day of Fall & it feels so good! I wanted to share this naturalistic Waterfall with you today.
Nestled in the corner of a private backyard garden with views from inside and out. The pond comes right up to the edge of the overhanging deck and really creates some magic 💥

We built this beauty several years back. It has matured nicely. The moss has spread everywhere. I Love ❤️ Waterfalls! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Martin, TN

I love visiting features that we installed years earlier. Seeing how the plants have matured and how the moss has spread over the rocks always excites me 😊

Waterfalls are my business, and business is good!

Waterfall Wednesday | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

It’s #waterfallwednesday y’all! My Favorite Day of the week! This Fabulous little Pondless
Waterfall was put here as a unique focal point in the forefront of a plant screen… PS: we didn’t want it to look like a hedgerow or “screening plants”… Boom 💥 Not only does it look great 24/7 thanks to the Landscape lighting, it sounds wonderful as well 🎶

We even put a small “seat boulder” there at front left for the “Perfect Picture” 😊

This is a recent Water Feature that I just love ❤️ It really transformed a boring area of the landscape. Now, it’s the Central Focal point of the entire area. At night the lights come on automatically and really throw some magic 💥 PLUS : The sound is beyond compare 😘 | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Aquatic Plant Of The Week – The ‘Marsh Mallow’ | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

If you read my Blog, you know I just Love ❤️ Aquatic Plants! Aquatic Plants were the first plants… Many are medicinal and/or edible and most are just down right beautiful!
Here’s one that you probably didn’t know about? But has played a part in our snacks and deserts for Thousands of years!
Check out the Marsh Mallow 👇🏻

The Marsh Mallow plant is one of my favorites! The practice of cooking the plant juice/sap to make marshmallow creme dates back to ancient Egypt! WOW! Also a great aquatic plant that can grow in your Water Garden.

You see these blooming around the road side ditches in bottom areas, especially around Reelfoot Lake and the backwater areas around the Mississippi River. You also find them in many Water Gardens that we design and install. So beautiful and Low Maintenance to boot… No wonder they have been around for so long 😊 You might even want to add one to your Water Garden?
