Question: What Is Diatomaceous Earth? D.E. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a natural product made of the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. D.E. easily crumbles to a fine powder and is used for many purposes from high end skin care products, to water purification, to farming & parasite/insect control. We can even use it to control internal parasites in our own bodies!

We use and sell “Food Grade” Diatomaceous Earth at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
I personally use it to kill/control fleas, ticks & ants around my home and on my pets. I also use it to worm my dogs and cats! It’s even a great organic insect dust that I use in my vegetable garden! The good stuff, as pictured here, is organic and food grade! Check out this video for more info –
Anytime I can turn someone on to a useful, organic product is a good day! If you haven’t tried it yourself, stop by and grab a shaker full – it’s inexpensive, organic and most importantly- It Works!
Have a great day!

This time of year I can hardly stay inside the house 😊 My eyes automatically POP open between 4:30 & 5am & that’s when I get outside. This morning I shot this short little video of my Koi eating a “First Light” meal – They were ready! 😊 I hope this brings a little Zen to your day…

When the hummingbirds are back around the nursery, it’s like magic to me. They have all the available flowers you can imagine, plus multiple feeders – They are in heaven too I think. I’ve been watching a few buzzing around this morning while I do my watering… It never gets old 😊
This beautiful poem sums it up…
“When the hummingbird sinks it’s face into the trumpet vine, and the funnels
Of the blossoms and the tongue leaps out and throbs,
I am scorched to realize once again how many small, available things are in the world
That aren’t pieces of gold or power —- that nobody owns
Or could buy even for a hillside of money —- that just float about the world,
Or drift over the fields, or into the gardens, and into the tents of the vines, and how here I am
spending my time, as the saying goes, watching until the watching turns into feeling, so that I feel I am myself
A small bird with a terrible hunger, with a thin beak probing and dipping and a heart that races so fast
it is only a heart beat ahead of breaking—- and I am the hunger and assuagement, and also I am the leaves and the blossoms, and, like them, I am full of delight and shaking.”
~ Mary Oliver
Enjoy this beautiful day!

Hump Day Koi Story | Could My Koi Be Lonesome? | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
I was thinking about a lady who came in a few weeks ago to look at some Koi. She has been here several times over the years and has became a regular customer during the season. She told us that over the winter she was visited by a Blue Heron… And you guessed it, it ate all her Koi – all but One! Her lone Koi has started to eat again now, but not like he used to… She described him as lethargic & almost disinterested in eating or swimming around and exploring. She said she was thinking about getting him some friends because she thinks he is lonely 😞 Then she asked me, “Can Koi get lonesome”?

Koi are definitely social creatures in my opinion. They seem to get along well and I’m almost certain they benefit from the company of other fish | Hump Day Koi Story | Could My Koi Be Lonesome? | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson,
Tennessee
I really enjoyed talking with her about this as we picked out 5 additional Koi to introduce to her Water Garden.
The rest of the story! – We spoke a few days later when she stopped by to grab a couple of bags of Koi Food. Her report was Awesome! The new fish acclimated well and started eating immediately! Her original Koi had warmed right up to the new guys and started eating like he was hungry again! To me that’s proof enough that Koi benefit from companionship. So do we 😊 Now she too, has several more new friends ❤️ Koi = Love!
