Today is a special day! In more ways than 1… Today, every American should remember the D-Day Invasion of WWII, June 6, 1944. That was the day that Allied forces invaded northern France by means of beach landings in Normandy. My grandfathers unit was there (Omaha Beach) and I have always felt a sense of pride and gratitude knowing what all those great men did for us 🇺🇸

The other thing that makes this a very special day is that today is my moms birthday! A very special day indeed! 🎂

You can’t send mom a Facebook Birthday message, because she’s not on Facebook 😊 BUT, she does read my BLOG … So feel free to drop a HB comment here if you’d like to. I’ll make sure she gets it
Thanks mom for all you do! You are a linchpin! You hold it all together and make it all work. I don’t know what I would do without you
Happy Birthday Mom! 🎁 I Love You! ❤️
“Thoughtful lady, that works so hard,
Always been there, my dear lifeguard.
Places others before herself,
Proud of pictures on her shelf.
When in pain, maintains here smile,
Multi-tasking, she’s versatile.
With all of this; time she finds,
Her love for us, constantly reminds.
On her birthday, just want to say,
I don’t know how, I will repay?
Eternally grateful, I hope she will see,
The greatest mother, she will always be.”

I was always teased about this day because not only is it a very important part of our history as a country, it’s my birthday as well 😊 This will be the 1st time in my life that I won’t get a call from my Uncle Doug saying “your birthday still lives in Infamy”… He passed away earlier this year… He was my first thought when I woke up this morning 🙏🏻 Rest in peace Uncle Doug.
We can never forget these important dates in our history! The attack on Pearl Harbor was the attack that “Woke the sleeping giant”! It ushered us into WWII, to ultimate victory & established the United States as the preeminent Super Power in the entire world
It’s our duty to remember and to teach our kids what happened and why.

Y’all have a wonderful day. Never forget!
God Bless America! 🇺🇸
PS: And Thanks for all the Birthday wishes!❤️

Today is a special day worthy of note. My grandad was in Normandy on D-Day and his group landed on Omaha Beach. He always said he would never forget that day! Another reason he wouldn’t forget is that today, June 6th. is also my Moms Birthday! 🇺🇸💥
Thanks to all the men that fought so hard for our freedom on this day! We lost around 4,400 men and over 6,600 men were wounded on D-Day alone!

It’s #Throwbackthursday again & today I want to mention one of my childhood hero’s – my Grandfather! He was a local butcher (Piggly Wiggly), a farmer & a very good gardener! I learned much of what I do today working with him in the gardens and in the field. He was also a decorated war hero, but he never talked about it much until I was older and even then I had to drag stories and info out of him. He was truly one of the “Greatest Generation”!

Patches, pins & medals from my Grandfathers military unit. His unit was instrumental in WW2 & saw action all over Europe. He was definitely part of the “Greatest Generation”!
Here’s one of the only pictures I have of him with his full unit. He was standing (A team) & this was right before they deployed to Europe.

There’s my grandad with his hand on his rifle strap. He was in the thick of things from D-Day & the Battle of the Bulge through till the end of the war. Then he came home and spent a peaceful life farming and cutting meat.
So here’s to F.D. Brinkley! ❤️ Love and miss ya’! #Throwbackthursday

It’s #Throwbackthursday again & I wanted to throw a spotlight on one of the coolest “old salts” that I ever had the pleasure to know. B. Jacob ‘Cutch’ Millard. He was my wife’s Grandad, who actually raised her which made him my defacto Father in law. He was from the “Greatest Generation” & served his country in WWII, Korea & Vietnam.

A few photos of a Great man! Cutch served for well over 30 years and saw action in WWII, Korea & Vietnam. He loved the bottom right picture with Eleanor Roosevelt. He was a great American!
Old Cutch mustered out of the Navy in the mid 70’s and returned to his Tennessee home. He was a proud Husband, Father, Grandpa & Great Grandfather. He lives on today in our hearts, in this #Throwbackthursday post & through his family, including our son Jacob, who bears his sir name.
Heres to ya’ Cutch! #Throwbackthursday!
Have a great day!

The Normandy landing operations took place on this date, on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

The determination & bravery of the men that took those beaches was unparalleled! Their victory laid the foundation that won the war.
I grew up on my granddads stories of the war & I always remembered Omaha Beach, the beach where he and his group landed. ‘Omaha Red’ he called it, he said the blood that was spilled there gave it that name – So much blood that the beach, the water, everything was Red!

This is one of the only pictures I have of my grandfather in uniform (center standing with his hand on his rifle sling). This was from a unit photo before they deployed. He made it through the war and back home. A highly decorated hero. A great man & role model.
June 6th is also a special day for my Mom 😊 It’s Her Birthday 🎂 My grandad always said he knew exactly where he was on that day in 1944…
Its been 75 years & we are still reaping the benefits from these men & women’s sacrifices. I thank God for our freedom & for the work & sacrifice that it took to make it so. We can never forget that Freedom isn’t Free!
God Bless America!
Ps: If you are lucky enough to still have a WW2 veteran around you, go see them today & hug their neck and thank them for their service.
