Here we are already past the mid point of July… Your Waterlilies are still blooming, but they seem… tired 😓 All those fantastic blooms, take a LOT of energy! NOW is the time to prepare your Lilies and Lotus for the ‘Late season push’…
Giving your aquatic plants a little trim and feeding them with some easy to apply aquatic fertilizer tabs will help them to perform well into the Fall season!
My Pond Tip today – Keep your Aquatic Plants fed and trimmed.
Try doing these 2 things and you can thank me later
#1 keep your lilies & lotus fed (fertilized) to keep them performing into late summer and fall. It’s very simple to do! Come by and grab a container of Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tabs. One of us will show you how to poke em’ down into the root zone of the plant… and your done… It’s that simple
Your Aquatic Plants will flourish with a little TLC. Do it now and enjoy them all the way to frost in late October.
AND #2 is to keep your aquatic plant growth in check! All this Warm weather has them growing like weeds
selectively trim marginal aquatics to keep in check and to promote strong compact growth.
remove yellowed unattractive Lilly pads & spent blooms to Promote new growth and bloom.
Keep Waterfalls & streams free and clear of excessive plant growth and debris! A plant dam will cause a leak every time!
That’s my Pond Tip for the week. It will keep your plants in top shape well into Fall & it will get you up and out in the garden for some much needed “Aquatherapy” 😊
Yep, it’s #throwbackthursday once again and this memory just popped up in my Facebook feed and provided the perfect inspiration. Aquatic plants are some of my favorites! And this beauty is hard to beat ❤️ Say hello to – Nymphaea ‘Red Flare’
This night-blooming lily produces magnificent magenta red, flowers that are held high above the waters’ surface. These fragrant blooms can stand 7″ to 10″ tall 🤩 Did I mention that they also bloom at night? Yes, the blooms open in late evening and bloom all night and into the early morning. A total show stopper!
Red flair is one of the tropical lilies that I always try to procure for my own Pond. They achieve the “trifecta”… Beautiful, Fragrant and a Night Bloomer! Boom 💥
Here we are in Full summer season just a week from the 4th of July, I’m sitting on a jet ski watching a frog 🐸 on a lily pad in the river. I think this is right where I’m supposed to be 😊 I feel breakfast 🍳 calling…
I don’t know about yours, but my pond plants have been exceptionally beautiful this season! LOTS of lily blooms 🌸 and the lotus have come out strong! All the Aquatic Marginals have really flushed out, and there is so much lush foliage!
This has been a wonderful Spring season for Aquatic Plants! A little touch up now will pay dividends for the rest of the season! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

The lilies and lotus are looking great! Buds and blooms galore 😊 But, if you want them to continue to perform throughout the season, you need to fertilize them regularly. They are heavy feeders!

When you walk up to a Koi pond you are immediately greeted by the Koi that live there. Who are you? What ya’ got for me 😊 Koi are very friendly. Jo took this short video of these Koi swimming through the lilies saying hi. Koi live in a perpetual state of Zen!
I got in a conversation with a couple of people the other day about the history of Water Gardening. It was really very interesting. The guy I’m talking about has traveled Europe and loves Italy. He was talking about the ancient Romans and their system of cisterns, aqueducts & fountains. Pretty sophisticated stuff considering we are talking 2,000 years ago. But did you know that some of the oldest and best recorded “Water Gardeners” were the ancient Egyptians? They were growing Lotus and Papyrus & keeping fish in their ponds over 3,500 years ago!
This ancient drawing depicts the growing of Aquatic & Ornamental Plants & using a Shadoof to dip water from an ornamental pond.
They were also great garden designers! In most of their garden designs, the Water Garden or Pond is the central focal point of the entire Landscape! The gardens were developed around the pond with blooming aquatic plants like lilies, lotus and papyrus. Ornamental plants and trees come right up the the edge of this oasis. To top it off they would create lots of space to lounge and enjoy the outdoor area. Sound familiar? 😊
My personal Oasis is much like one of Ancient Egypt… The Pond is the centerpiece, surrounded by gardens both edible and ornamental with sitting and lounging areas and a nice fire pit | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN
It’s pretty cool to realize how similar people and civilizations are over the millennia. These ancient people surrounded themselves with Water and beautiful plants & pioneered concepts and things we still use today – like irrigation, garden design, arbors, edible ornamental’s & even ornamental fish keeping. They even developed indoor plumbing and cross ventilated sewers… 3,500 Years Ago!
So thats my offering for Throwback Thursday! #throwbackthursday

Koi Love to be hand fed! If yours aren’t eating from your hand yet, try feeding at the same time daily and have patience, it takes a little while to win them over, but once you do, it will be worth the effort 😊 Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
– Enjoy your Koi! Feed them quality Koi food, but don’t over feed! Over feeding can cause water quality issues…

I just LOVE Networking online! Here’s a great example, our friends at Asia Garden Chinese & Japanese Restaurant https://www.asiagardenjackson.com/ came out to our nursery and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the gardens, AND took some Awesome photos of some of their Top Shelf Creations 😊 How cool!
What a great way to spread the love of 2 of my favorite things – Waterfalls & Food 😊
