Waterfall Wednesday | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Another #Waterfallwednesday is upon us 😊 I ❤️ Waterfalls! Here are two (2) brand new Waterfalls that were just set in motion. These are on the same feature, and it’s a Very special Water Garden! I will show this whole project in a future Blog, once it’s complete… It’s still a “work in progress”.

I slowed the shutter speed down a little on this picture to really show the smooth, flowing feel of this waterfall. I think it turned out to have a very natural look and feel. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

This Waterfall & Stream enter a different part of the pond & create a very natural look and feel. The driftwood adds a nice touch too. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

I LOVE seeing a new Water Garden come to life! There’s nothing like it 😊

I hope y’all enjoy my offerings for #WaterfallWednesday!

30 years In Business & I’m An Overnight Success | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Mark Carter, this is my 30th. Year in Business & I am finally an overnight success!

Thank you ALL for your support over the last 30 years!

I Love ❤️ My Job! Did I mention that? I love it so much apparently that 30 years have flown right by… When I actually stop and pay attention for a minute, it surprises even me 😊

I’ve been waiting for 30 years! Success is an elusive thing…

I had a nice conversation with a lady yesterday, we had never met, but hit it right off, as gardeners many times do. She said she had driven past my Nursery for the last 30 years & NEVER knew I was back here… Then she told me she was “blown away” by the place! She talked about the Waterfalls & Koi and all the plants and trees. She told me this place was a “Hidden Gem” 😊 Thank You! ❤️ And yes,’I hear that kind of thing often! We sit back off the road in a little valley of sorts, a “Hollow” or “Holler” as my grandma called it 😊 The #1 thing that I get told is that we are “Jackson’s Best Kept Secret”! Personally, I think that’s pretty cool 😎

All these years I have been Jackson’s Best Kept Secret… Well, now the secrets out! The narrative has changed… I’m coining a new one myself! “Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio, 30 years in business & finally, an Overnight Success”!

Thanks to all of YOU!

Monday Morning Moment Of Zen | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Good morning 😊 This is one of my oldest Waterfalls at Carters Nursery. The moss and old driftwood stump really naturalize this Waterfall, and the sound will almost hypnotize you if you sit down and listen. It’s all about the Zen like atmosphere that it helps to create. I hope it adds a bit o’ Zen to your day…

Happy Pondering 🤔

Before & After + 20 Years | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

I LOVE before and after pictures of Landscapes. They are powerful! A simple idea can literally transform an area to something completely different. This one goes back a bit… 20 years or so. I came across these pictures while I was cleaning out some files and thought I would share them today. After all, it’s Thursday & everyone is posting throwback pics 😊

This area was planned to be a “Filler Area” in the landscape with cross ties and ground covers. BUT, I talked them into more…

This area beacame their favorite spot in and around the house. I took this after picture around 20 years after the initial installation while I was there to speak to a local Garden Club about Water Features in the Landscape. Still such a beautiful spot to spend time.

This is my offering for #Throwback Thursday😊

Have a great one!

What Happens To My Koi If They Outlive Me? | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

A great client that has become a good friend recently asked me to help him pick out a few Koi for his new Water Garden. I helped him Design his Pond and Waterfalls last year and we built it in the Fall. Long story short – He LOVES it! He’s spent every spare, dry, bearable moment messing around out there this Winter and can’t wait until Spring when he can really set up housekeeping for the Spring/Summer/Fall season! 🙂 Now. it’s time to get some fish for his new Pond and he’s excited! We looked at quite a few Koi, & We asked each other all kinds of questions as you might imagine, the one he asked me that really touched me was “What happens to my Koi if they outlive me”?…

A domestic Koi, in average conditions can live upwards of 30 years…

He read one of my blogs, in where I mentioned the “Famous Japanese Koi”, ‘Hanako’ that lived to be over 225 years old! He realized they can be long living pets and just wanted to hear what might happen to them. 😊 Pretty neat to think about that. In Japan Koi are prized and in some cases passed down, even willed to family upon the owners death. It’s an honor.

I have been in business long enough that I have actually dealt with  this situation more than once. Most of the time the Koi stay with the Pond & the spouse and/or family carries on. But I have seen people move the fish to other Ponds, and even sell or give the fish to other people with Ponds of their own. I myself have taken many Koi in and fostered them until they could be placed in a new home.

Then I reminded him, Koi means Love! And Love will always find a way! 😊 I told told him – “Enjoy your Pond, & enjoy your Koi! They will bring you many years of Interest & enjoyment”. Words to live by…

Happy Pondering 🤔
