I was always teased about this day because not only is it a very important part of our history as a country, it’s my birthday as well 😊 This will be the 1st time in my life that I won’t get a call from my Uncle Doug saying “your birthday still lives in Infamy”… He passed away earlier this year… He was my first thought when I woke up this morning 🙏🏻 Rest in peace Uncle Doug.
We can never forget these important dates in our history! The attack on Pearl Harbor was the attack that “Woke the sleeping giant”! It ushered us into WWII, to ultimate victory & established the United States as the preeminent Super Power in the entire world
It’s our duty to remember and to teach our kids what happened and why.

Y’all have a wonderful day. Never forget!
God Bless America! 🇺🇸
PS: And Thanks for all the Birthday wishes!❤️

April 1st. is April fools day to most… In fact, I had planned a funny post this morning myself… But my mind and emotions steered me in a different direction completely, and I had to start over…
Today was also my Uncle Doug’s birthday. He recently passed away from Covid 19 and has been heavy on my mind. I always took him out for his birthday to a place of his choosing. Sometimes it was as simple as his favorite place for Chinese food here in town, or a place in Memphis for BBQ or maybe he would say “Let’s get some steaks 🥩 and fix dinner for everyone. But since I can remember, I spent this day with him.

My blog title today was meant to express how I feel about the love I have for my Uncle.
Time immemorial (Latin: Ab immemorabili) is a phrase meaning time extending beyond the reach of memory, record, or tradition, indefinitely ancient, “ancient beyond memory or record”. In law, it means that a property or benefit has been enjoyed for so long that its owner does not have to prove how they came to own it.
We were close from the day I was born, before my memory’s started! “beyond memory or record”…
He was a true blessing in my life. Happy Birthday in Heaven Uncle Doug! 🙏🏻 You are truly missed ❤️
“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying,
nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.”
– Revelation 21:4
PS: If you have someone in your life that has been there for you “beyond memory or record”, be it family or a life long best friend, give them a hug today and tell them you Love them. Things happen in the blink of an eye and then all that’s left, is your memories… 🙏🏻

I LOVE #throwbackthursday! It’s a wonderful opportunity for meaningful memories. Like this one today.

My dads friend George grew all kinds of trees up in McMinnville, TN. When dad saw these blooming, he knew he wanted one. He brought one home from a visit years ago for me to plant. We waited until the proper time and my Uncle Doug and me planted it here. It’s always a dependable bloomer and a harbinger of Spring.
This throwback is also special because we just recently lost Uncle Doug to Covid. Seeing this picture today, really gave me a special memory. Thanks Shannon 😊
Have a great #throwbackthursday ❤️

Losing a loved one, someone who is truly close to you is tough. The loss and sadness are a hard reality… I just recently lost my Uncle. We were very close. I have had a lot of emotion over his sickness and his passing… But knowing him the way I do, he wouldn’t want us to be sad or down about his death. He was a very spiritual person. And a very positive person. He always had a smile on his face and something nice to say, maybe something to make you laugh or smile 😊 An ‘Eternal Optimist’! And that is what I am going to focus on and remember the most about Uncle Doug!
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Rest In Peace!

George D. (Uncle Doug) Brinkley, passed away peacefully last night. Covid 19 pneumonia was just too much for his lungs to handle. He was loved by all that knew him. He led a very interesting life to say the least… He enlisted in the US Navy at age 19 and went on to work in Navy Nuclear Power. He attended college in California (UCSD & UCLA) and in Tennessee (TN Tech) where he earned several degrees including Electronic Engineering. He was an early computer designer and program writer for several company’s. But his heart was back home in the gardens. He came to work for me in 1989 when I started Carters Nursery. He said he was “Burned Out” on all the technology and computer screens. He wanted to get back outside and grow things. Which he did! He helped design landscapes, he worked in greenhouses, he watered and pruned, fertilized and mulched and everything else that goes with a Nursery business. He also helped me start a fish retailing set up where his engineering sense came in handy! He became an expert on Koi! We teased him a bit by calling him the “Koi Whisperer”, but he really was… He was also a Chess ♟ Master! Playing and defeating most everyone that sat down across the board from him 😊
He retired in 2015 and enjoyed his time messing around in the gardens and koi ponds. He played chess ♟ and many other games with friends. He loved spending time with friends and family! He also adored and loved his many pets. He will be forever missed. Rest In Peace Uncle Doug 🙏🏻 I Love you!

PS: We plan to have a memorial service in the future, date TBD.
Thank you and God Bless 🙏🏻
