I’m having my last cup of coffee for the morning and its fixing to get busy… We are hosting the days festivities and there is a LOT to do 😊 I’ve been listening to and watching the rain fall this morning, thinking about all I have to be thankful for… It’s quite a list! 🙏🏻 At the top are all my family and friends that truly enrich my life ❤️ I have been blessed to be able to live and work with the people that are most important to me in my life. Many of them will be here at our house later today, that is a true blessing🙏🏻 When I say the prayer later today I must also remember our soldiers and sailors that couldn’t be home with family today! I am very thankful for them and their sacrifices as well 🙏🏻

We live in the greatest nation in the world!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I have received a few calls and messages asking if we are open today, we are not… We are closed today and Monday for Memorial Day. Have a great weekend! And remember, This weekend we honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. “All gave some. Some gave all”.

Remember
Someone’s child, left long ago,
A strange land,
Someone’s foe.
An unmarked grave, fields of green,
Resting quiet,
Just eighteen.
Winds of freedom, wash us now,
Remember him,
This I vow
~ Victor C. Kleinschmit
Have a safe and Happy holiday!

Memorial Day honors and mourns our brave men and women who gave ALL, in service to our country. The Memorial Day holiday is always on the last Monday of May and is considered the official start of the Summer season.
We always take a long weekend during this time to rest and reflect.

Please note that Carters Nursery will be CLOSED-
Friday the 28th thru Monday the 31st. in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday morning June 1st. and resume our normal schedule.
Thank You 🙏🏻 Have a wonderful holiday 🇺🇸
“By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.
On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set today a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee”

I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! I for one know how many blessing I have in my life, and I am Thankful!
– Did you know that George Washington was the first president to make a formal proclamation for Thanksgiving?
“This National Thanksgiving Proclamation was the first formal proclamation of Thanksgiving in the United States. President George Washington declared Thursday, November 26, 1789 as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer.” 👇🏻

Heres the typed text –
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness. Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.
What an inspirational leader he was!
We all have a lot to be thankful for!
Enjoy this day of Thanksgiving!
God Bless America! 🇺🇸

The whole team at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio wants to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Labor Day Weekend! The Nursery will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday in observance of the Holiday!
Thanks Pete! We all need a long weekend!
By the way, I’m talking about Mr. – 👇🏻
“Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader, was the person who came up with the idea for Labor Day. He thought American workers should be honored with their own day. He proposed his idea to New York’s Central Labor Union early in 1882, and they thought the holiday was a good idea, too.”

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I got up early & I’m already busy cooking and preparing my part in what will be a HUGE Thanksgiving spread for our family and friends. For my part of the meal I’m fixing a glazed ham, a convection baked turkey & “twice baked” mashed potatoes! Everyone else is fixing a thing or two also (green beans, casseroles, rolls, cranberry’s, deviled eggs, dressing with giblet gravy, a big relish tray, sweet potato’s, cakes and pies, etc… It’s going to be a Feast!
Here’s a few pics from last years spread-
Thanksgiving is an American holiday! It goes back to the pilgrims of course, but did you know that George Washington was the first president to make a formal proclamation for the Holiday? Indeed he was!
