Good Morning! Brace yourself… This is the last morning of late Summer… tomorrow is the Autumnal Equinox, ie; The 1st day of Fall 🍁

I always try to post proactive things you can do to keep your Water Garden clean and your Koi healthy over the Fall & Winter. Things like – Cutting your aquatic plants back, using pond/Koi netting, watching your skimmer more closely, feeding Cool Temp Koi Food, etc. – There’s another very important thing you can do to really keep your ecosystem active and working well
– Switch to Cool Season Beneficial Bacteria!

Our Cold Water Beneficial Bacteria works and keeps on working when the plants and fish aren’t active and really helps the quality of your Pond Water! It is extremely effective at reducing sludge, dead and decaying leaves and plants, built up fish waste & excess nutrients like ammonia, nitrates & phosphates. These things make for poor water quality, reduced water clarity and can have catastrophic effects on your fishes health.

The next piece of ’Low Hanging Fruit’ im going to serve up is this : Every Pond should have a floating Pond thermometer Our finned friends are cold blooded & water temperature is very important when it comes to seasonal feeding times. Pick one up at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio today.

The last Pond Tip for today is this – “Our Koi have eaten well this year & have put on a good bit of fat to get them through the Cool Season ahead. Now is the time that many of my clients and fellow Koi enthusiasts start asking a very important question…
– When do I stop feeding regular food and start feeding Cool Season Koi Food?

Switching to a Cool Temperature Koi Food is very important for the health of your Koi!
Well thats enough for today I just want you all to be ready with the tools and things you need to easily succeed during the changing of the seasons.
Tomorrow is the start of a new Season! Are You ready for some Fall? 🏈 🍁 🔥
PS: Join us October 1st for a FREE Pond Maintenance Workshop!

My pond has been exceptionally beautiful this summer! LOTS of lily blooms and the lotus have been showing out!

One of the #1 things to do right now is keep your lilies & lotus fed (fertilized) to keep them performing through late summer and into fall. It’s very simple to do! Come by and grab a container of Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tabs. One of us will show you how to poke em’ down into the root zone of the plant – Boom 💥 Your Done!
AND #2 is to keep your aquatic plant growth in check! All this Hot weather has them growing like weeds
- selectively trim marginal aquatics to keep in check and to promote strong compact growth.
- remove yellowed unattractive Lilly pads & spent blooms to Promote new growth and bloom.
- Keep Waterfalls & streams free and clear of excessive plant growth and debris! A plant dam will cause a leak every time!

– Enjoy your Koi! Feed them quality Koi food, but don’t over feed! Over feeding can cause water quality issues…
A little Aquatic Plant touch up now will pay dividends for the rest of the season! Get out there and enjoy.

Summertime is here & with the hot weather comes a HUGE growth of our Aquatic Plants – I LOVE IT! BUT, beware!

Pond Tip : Stay ahead of possible plant clogs and stream or waterfall dams by trimming and pruning your aquatic plant growth! It will keep your pond looking great and you will see increased bloom and performance as well! ALSO – Check and empty your skimmer weekly!
Its as simple as that folks! I clip dead or dying lilies once per week (and fertilize monthly during the season)! I also thin marginals as needed – Usually once or twice per season will do the trick! And vola’! NO clogs, or plant dams all season long!
Here’s to a GREAT Summer season around the Ponds!
PS: We offer weekly & monthly pond maintenance services. Call for more details – 731-424-2206.

Here we are already past the mid point of July… Your Waterlilies are still blooming, but they seem… tired 😓 All those fantastic blooms, take a LOT of energy! NOW is the time to prepare your Lilies and Lotus for the ‘Late season push’…

My Pond Tip today – Keep your Aquatic Plants fed and trimmed.
Try doing these 2 things and you can thank me later
#1 keep your lilies & lotus fed (fertilized) to keep them performing into late summer and fall. It’s very simple to do! Come by and grab a container of Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tabs. One of us will show you how to poke em’ down into the root zone of the plant… and your done… It’s that simple

That’s my Pond Tip for the week. It will keep your plants in top shape well into Fall & it will get you up and out in the garden for some much needed “Aquatherapy” 😊
Have a great night!

Well, we are past the Summer Solstice and approaching the 4th of July. Meaning, the HEAT is ON! 🌞🥵 All the aquatic plants are full and lush as they can be. But, they are getting heavy & about to need some TLC!

I always wait until after the 4th of July party, then I give my plants a good haircut. It will extend the beauty of most plants through the remainder of the season. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio
The 4th of July is a great time to trim back your heavy hanging baskets, overflowing pottery & your crazy Aquatic Plants!
It’s also a great time to fertilize them! It will blow your mind how quickly they fill right back in and start blooming again. WOW!

I always cleanup & trim back my plants mid season to rejuvenate vigor & produce more blooms into the late season. Try it!
While you’re at it, have a jar of Aquatic Plant fertilizer and feed those babies! The ROI is Beautiful! 😊

We stock Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tablets for your convenience at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio. They are super easy to use and work great! Keep your Aquatics looking great all season long!
So there you have it! After that big 4th party, spend a little time and trim back your bloomers and your aquatic plants, and fertilize/feed them! It will keep you looking great all the way through Fall!
Happy Pondering 🤔
