1 Dozen Days To Go! Have YOU Carved A Jack-O-Lantern Yet? | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

We are 12 days away from Halloween 🎃 We LOVE to carve pumpkins 🎃 in our house! In fact, we will carve at least 1 Jack-O-Lantern every day from now to ‘All Hallows Eve’… Think “12 days of Halloween” 👻

Here are a few of my favorites. Some are ours, some were done by others & some are just  deco Jack-O-Lanterns that we display every year. To me, they just set the mood for the season 😊

Get as creative as you want! Pumpkin carving is good for the soul!😊 This was carved by a very creative young lady at our recent Fall Fest!

Have some fun this weekend and carve a Pumpkin 🎃 ‘Tis’ The Season!

Our Annual “April 1st Chilly Willy Pond Plunge” Will Be The Coldest EVER! | Jackson, Tennessee

“As Per Tradition”, we, the “Distinguished Few” will meet at the “Big Pond”, at the Nursery & Take our Annual ‘Chilly Willy Plunge” exactly at sunrise, which is 6:41am. In the morning! Always a fun event! But, tomorrow mornings ‘CWP’ will be taken at a crisp, 27 degrees Fahrenheit… A record low temperature! Can you say shrinkage 🥶

Get here early! Sunrise is 6:41am! You will need time to park and walk to the ponds edge. As you know, only about 15 people at a time have room to get in the pond comfortably, the 1st group in will be “first come, first in”! So I would get here early if you want to be in the official photo, that will probably be on the cover of the soon to be published Photo Book about our unique, little group! 🍾

I will open the gates as early as possible so everyone can get a number and get in position. I recommend that you come dressed in your chosen ‘Plunge attire’, wearing a robe or heavy coat & water shoes or flip flops. Some have even worn Cover All’s that they unzip and step right out of.

REMEMBER – Bring your own towels! 2 or 3 of them!

– Hot coco will be available.

Man, am I ready for this! 🌞 Viva La’ ‘Tradicion’!

He Haw y’all! See ya’ in the AM!

Traditions and Celebrations | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Traditions are important and some go way back! Our modern Groundhog Day has roots all the way back into ancient Ireland!

The Spring celebration of Imbolc was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. It marked the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox.

It also has history with early German settlers that came over in the 1700’s. They celebrated a similar holiday at the halfway point called Candlemas day.

Today, we’ve added our unique American spin to it & we call it Groundhog Day and a furry groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil is our go between… He checks the weather, and if it’s nice & sunny – No Joy! 6 more weeks of bad weather. But, if it’s raining or overcast, he see’s NO shadow – Bam 💥! Spring is coming quick!

If ground-hog day was bright and fair,
The beast came forth, but not to stay;
His shadow turned him to his lair,
Where six weeks more, he dormant lay
Secure in subterranean hold—
So wondrous weatherwise was he—
Against six weeks of ice and cold,
Which, very certain, there would be…
~H.L. Fisher, “Popular Superstitions,”

No matter what you celebrate or believe, today marks the downhill roll towards Spring! My FAVORITE season of the year! Bring it 😊

Today is a day to celebrate indeed!

Have a great weekend! And, Happy Groundhog Day!

PS: My prediction- Spring will get here around the 20th of March 😉
