Black Friday – “The Morning After”…

It’s been a great holiday! Family & Friends came to visit, catch up a bit & eat!

The meal was followed by Football 🏈 and an epic nap! That’s a hat trick for an old man😊

Now, it’s a road trip for Black Friday! Wish us luck …

Y’all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!🦃

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I got up early & I’m already busy cooking and preparing my part in what will be a HUGE Thanksgiving spread for our family and friends. For my part of the meal I’m fixing a glazed ham, a convection baked turkey & “twice baked” mashed potatoes! Everyone else is fixing a thing or two also (green beans, casseroles, rolls, cranberry’s, deviled eggs, dressing with giblet gravy, a big relish tray, sweet potato’s, cakes and pies, etc… It’s going to be a Feast!
Here’s a few pics from last years spread-

I have so much to be thankful for! Great food is definitely one of them.

Thanksgiving is an American holiday! It goes back to the pilgrims of course, but did you know that George Washington was the first president to make a formal proclamation for the Holiday? Indeed he was!
“This National Thanksgiving Proclamation was the first formal proclamation of Thanksgiving in the United States. President George Washington declared Thursday, November 26, 1789 as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer.”

Heres the typed text –

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness. Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

George Washington was a great leader & truly loved his fellow man & his new country! He was also a devout man & a Thankful one.

Enjoy this day of Thanksgiving!
God Bless America! 🦃🇺🇸

Thanksgiving Weekend “To-Do” List… PS: I’m gonna need a day off after this!

This is always a busy weekend! Cooking & then cleaning up from the ‘Big Dinner’, is a given… But my personal list of to-dos seems to grow every year 🤔

  •  Take down and store Fall/Thanksgiving decorations with my wife.  Then –
  • Fire up the smoker & put some meat on for later…
  • Get in the attic and carry the tree, decorations & other Christmas decor down & put together/set up.

Just a few Christmas trees from years past.

  • Plant 150 Daffodil bulbs.

The traditional time to plant Spring flowering bulbs is between Thanksgiving & Christmas.

  • Outdoor Christmas lighting (Not a lot)…
  • Trash duty.

Then dinner and a night out…

Wow! Looking at my list, this looks a bit ambitious 🤨 😂

Have a great Holiday Weekend! And pace yourself 😊

Sunday Reflections…

Yesterday was a beautiful day! The temps hit 70 degrees and I was just waiting to see a mosquito 😊 Such a contrast to just a few days ago with that early snow ❄️ covering the ground!

Pre-Thanksgiving snow is a rare thing around here. But a few days later here it is sunny ☀️ & 70 deg!

Maybe we are having our “Indian Summer”… That warming in Fall after frost and freeze have already occurred… In any case, I’ll take it!

Thanksgiving is in a few days and it feels like shorts & sandles outside! 70 deg. = Indian Summer 🍁

Now, it’s on to Thanksgiving & the holiday season… Ready or not, it’s that time 😊 Time to count our blessings!

“Give me the end of the year an’ it’s fun,          When most of the plannin’ an’ toilin’ Is done; Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,    Let me sit down with the ones I love best, Hear the old voices still ringin’ with song,   See the old faces unblemished by wrong,   See the old table with all of its chairs           An’ I’ll put soul in my Thanksgivin’ Prayers.”

Have a GREAT Sunday!

And a Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁🍽

9 Tuesday’s Tiil Christmas? 🎃 | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Did you know that Christmas is on a Tuesday this year? I didn’t either until the other day while running into a store for a quick purchase I had a lady say to me “Only 10 Tuesday’s left before Christmas”!

Don’t get so far ahead of yourself that you forget about today!

It seems to get earlier every year now… Blaring Christmas music in early October? Candy canes & sleighs 🛷…

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to carve a few more pumpkins 🎃 & go to a few more bonfires 🔥 before I start hanging Christmas stockings! Here’s to enjoying each season on its own merits 😊

Jeees! I haven’t even been to the Haunted Farm yet… Turn off jingle bells and let’s enjoy a happy Halloween or a Fall Fest…

ps: Only 9 Tuesday’s till Christmas 😂
