Sunday Reflections…

What a beautiful night we had last evening. We had our Luau party and the weather was just perfect 😊 So many wonderful people came and enjoyed a beautiful June evening in our Garden. The music was Awesome and the food was Great!

From prepping the food to greeting guest yesterday was filled with fun! The neatest reactions came from some of the kids😊 Kids LOVE nature!

Summer is just starting! But it will be gone in the blink of an eye 👁… I hope you can get out and enjoy the Summer season. In fact, let’s all make a point to do just that😊 Times flying by…

“Mine is the Month of Roses; yes, and mine
The Month of Marriages! All pleasant sights
And scents, the fragrance of the blossoming vine,
The foliage of the valleys and the heights.
Mine are the longest days, the loveliest nights;
The mower’s scythe makes music to my ear;
I am the mother of all dear delights;
I am the fairest daughter of the year.”

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Have a GREAT Sunday!

Enjoying The Time on a Weekend Off | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

We are closed this weekend. We are taking time off for the observance of Labor Day. A little time to enjoy with our family & friends. To celebrate with one another! We all need a rest from our labors sometimes. I’m going to take advantage of it! I hope you all do too 😊

See you next Tuesday 👍

Time is flying by! Don’t miss it cause you can’t get it back!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

“Time is not a river
Nor a ticking clock
Nor an hourglass

We cannot save time
We cannot spend time
We cannot borrow time
We cannot buy time
We cannot cheat time

Time is not a gift
Time is not our friend
Nor our enemy
Time is not on our side
Time is not ours in any sense
Save for the single second
That holds our full attention
Then slips forever beyond grasp”

Friday Radio Report…

I know I say this every week, But, this show is just FUN! It’s always Awesome to hang out with the 180 Crew! Dan & Sea Bass Rock! PLUS – today Laura Lamun was in the house talking about organic foods, essential oils and one of the coolest things I have ever seen – Sonic Sound Therapy! Laura never ceases to amaze with her vast knowledge of herbs, oils, foods and alternative methods of health and healing! She explained a bit about WHAT Sound Healing was today!

Laura showing Dan how “Sonic Sound Therapy” feels. She tried a little on me too – 1 word… AWESOME!

Sound healing is the therapeutic use of sound frequencies on a person, with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony by balancing the physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual aspects of their being. Laura demonstrated Sound Healing on us with her tuning forks and I have to say, it was really cool! What she used is called – Vibration Healing and it’s done by direct contact on the body with several specifically tuned “sound healing instruments” aka; Tuning Forks.

AND we talked about all sorts of things on top of all that! Here’s just a few…

  • Crepe myrtle bark scale is real! It’s EVERYWHERE now! We had 2 callers today! Here is a link to more info –

Sunday Reflections…

What a beautiful August morning! Sunday morning = Family breakfast! Fresh melons & sliced tomatoes with eggs and French toast. Perfect  Summer Sunday Morning! Blessings overflow… I’m very Thankful for all my Blessings!

Breakfast with lots from the Garden!

August is here! Summer is flying by! I’m going to try to enjoy each day to the fullest! August always flies by for me. It’s here, then it’s gone  in a flash…

August also means LOTS of fresh veggies to can and preserve. These are chopped up to make Mamaw Frans Chow Chow.

“August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.”
~ Elizabeth Maua Taylor

Enjoy the day –

For an evergreen outdoor plant Juniper is great! Lots to choose from too… I love Procumbens nana! You can do LOTS of things with this one! For an indoor/tropical bonsai here in our area I love Fig, ie; Ficus… You can use a classic ficus house plant of even an edible fig like Brown Turkey.

  • LOTS of questions about Crepe Myrtles – Can I cut back? Light trimming only now to be safe!
  • My 20 year old Crepe Myrtle isn’t blooming. – Try feeding! Milorganite is good.
  • Insects on my Crepe Myrtle. “Look kinda like mealy bugs”. What do I do? This could be Bark Scale? LOTS of info on this online. here’s a quick link –

Friday Radio Report | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

FUN show today with the “180 Crew” – Dan Reaves and Sea Bass! It’s HOT outside and that was a topic of conversation for sure! Add in the fact it’s also been WET and stormy makes for interesting things in the garden! Including lots of insects, fungal problems, leeching of nutrients from excessive rain, WEEDS! Etc., Etc…

  • One lady in particular is having problems with their Zucchini rotting on the vine. I suggested that it’s probably blossom end rot, caused by calcium deficiency. The soil needs lime to be added. It’s not an instant fix to add lime to the soil, but it will help for the future. There are calcium rich foliage sprays that will help too.
  • Another caller was asking about a hardy palm for our area – The most popular and hardy Palm I have found for our area is a Windmill Palm. They really add a tropical feel and survive well in our area. Call me for specifics or pricing.
  • Another great question was about making Pesto – do I have any advice? I lOVE pesto! And, yes I will give you my opinion. To me the biggie is FRESH, High Quality Ingredients! I also suggested trying an alternative to Pine Nuts… Pistachios! Try it and tell me what you think! Ingredients – 4 cups fresh basil leaves. 1/2 cup shelled, roasted pistachios, 1/2 cup FRESHLY grated Parmesan cheese, 3-5 cloves of garlic, fresh squeezed lemon juice – 1 TBS., 1/2-3/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper and I add 1 dried cayenne pepper! DO NOT – Slap your Momma! Although you may want to after you taste this Pesto! YUM!
  • Our new “Roundabout” at Deddrick and Highland St. is still very controversial! I’ll be glad when it’s built and traffic is flowing well again 🙂
  • Night Fishing – Yes or No? I say YES!

    Summer is HERE! Get out and ENJOY!

    Next week is a BIGGIE! Sunday, the 1st. of July marks the half-way point of the year! WOW! Time flies…

    AND – Wednesday is the 4th of July! Independence Day! Fireworks and FUN! God Bless America!

    Have a safe and happy 4th. of JULY! God Bless America!

Y’all have a great weekend!

PS: Starting next Friday I will be on 2 hours each Friday instead of only 1! TWICE the FUN! Give me a call 🙂

Sunday Reflections…

What a beautiful night last night was. We stayed out by the Pond till midnight or later. Summer time in Tennessee is so fine!

My Pond is even more beautiful at night I think.

Then early this morning we were sitting on the porch watching a nice gentle rain shower fall. I’m thankful for all these blessings.

“That beautiful season the Summer!
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light;
and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.”
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Enjoy your Sunday!
