I was thinking/reflecting this morning while I sipped my coffee about the passage of time and the seasons. As winter slowly moves into spring, it feels like warmer weather will never arrive. Then boom 💥 it’s June again… Time is so funny! I guess the old wisdom holds true, time is fleeting… The only real time is Now!

“This is June, the month of grass and leaves . . . already the aspens are trembling again, and a new summer is offered me. I feel a little fluttered in my thoughts, as if I might be too late. Each season is but an infinitesimal point. It no sooner comes than it is gone. It has no duration. It simply gives a tone and hue to my thought. Each annual phenomena is reminiscence and prompting. Our thoughts and sentiments answer to the revolution of the seasons, as two cog-wheels fit into each other. We are conversant with only one point of contact at a time, from which we receive a prompting and impulse and instantly pass to a new season or point of contact. A year is made up of a certain series and number of sensations and thoughts which have their language in nature. Now I am ice, now I am sorrel. Each experience reduces itself to a mood of the mind.”
– Henry David Thoreau, Journal, June 6, 1857

We finally had some much needed rain! My lawn and gardens certainly appreciated it… Looking at the weeks forecast, there is a chance of rain almost daily, but temps are gonna settle into the 80’s for what appears to be a mostly normal August! It’s a very pleasant morning 🌞 Locust in the background, partly sunny and mild. The birds are singing, my oven is preheating, & I’m drinking coffee ☕️ trying to capture a thought 💭

Last night I started getting serious with my Moonlight Pond Tour preparation… Checking lights, adjusting things, trying a few new things out… Please let me know what you think so far 😊

It was HOT last night though! 92 degrees and super humid at 11pm 😯 When we got through Jo and I were both soaked and exhausted 🥱 It’s a good feeling to me 😊

Great end to a great week! It’s been hot, but it’s about to change…
“Seen from above, the canopy of oak and make and pine is pierced by the pond, which looks back at you like some green eye, knowing and ancient. The air above the pond dives into clefts of coolness, then rises up at the warmth of the margins. Down the path, filigrees of blackflies and mosquitos dance in the heat waves given off by men and women and their domestic fires. Joyous bats dart about.”

Last nights blowing cool front that came in from the North felt like such a blessing! It went from high humidity and HOT to breezy and cool in a moment! Wow! It literally felt like a gift from heaven 🙏🏻 After that we took a walk around the property and admired the Gardens ❤️ Then we sat on the swing, drank coffee and listened to the dryflies, frogs & crickets 🎶

This morning is so nice as well! Coffee and the promise of a little cooler weather… I will take it!
Enjoy this day that the lord has made 🙏🏻

Thats a VERY important question! I mean, literally half of every day is either going into or coming out of darkness… The vast majority of us work during “business hours”, which means most of our free time is in the evening or at night! 🌙 So, let me ask you again, Do you enjoy your Garden at Night?!

This weekend there is a very Unique Opportunity to get outside, under a Full Moon, and tour some Gorgeous, well lit Gardens! All of them include beautiful Water Features and extensive lighting and Landscaping. Some with Outdoor Kitchens, Fire pits, Patios, Pergolas and more.

After your eyes are opened to this ”Nighttime World”, you will never be the same 😊❤️

As you know, This Saturday evening is the Moonlight Pond Tour. It’s always such a special evening. We time this Garden Tour with the Harvest Moon each Fall and it has became my favorite event that Carters Nursery produces.

This year, we are going to have someone special at the Nursery during the Pond Tour… He will be playing his guitar and singing a few choice selections for all those that wander our gardens this special night 🎸
