I had to put my jacket on this morning when I walked outside with my 1st cup of coffee 🥶 It was a little chilly… BUT, it’s supposed to get up to 78 degrees this afternoon 🌞 Great news! A little more great news, we have ‘probably’ gotten passed our last frost! Can you say Spring Planting Time!

I’m heading back inside to make another pot of coffee and fix some breakfast… Then its on!

My advice is to get out and enjoy this beautiful day! 🌞
“The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March.”
~ Robert Frost
Have a great Sunday!

Were you early to church this morning? Or, were you more like me and actually set your clocks ahead like we were supposed to, only to have to drag your butt out of bed 🛏 Springing forward ain’t easy!

As I watch the snow melt this morning, Spring is in the air! And in a week, it will be official 😊 I am so ready for longer evenings, flowers, boating season and homegrown tomato’s 🍅.
“In spring when maple buds are red,
We turn the clock an hour ahead;
Which means, each April that arrives,
We lose an hour out of our lives.
Who cares? When autumn birds in flocks
Fly southward, back we turn the clocks,
And so regain a lovely thing
That missing hour we lost in spring.”

Crazy weather… It was supposed to have rained all day, but it didn’t rain a drop 💧So in essence we got a free day! 😊 So nice and so warm, it turned out to be a wonderful Spring day! Walking around the Landscape, so much is blooming 🌼 Daffodils, Magnolias, Forsythia and the Maples, birch and willow are coming out like gangbusters – don’t forget the Privet 🤧 can you say Pollen…

Did I mention crazy weather? Rain tonight. Freezing temps tomorrow night, followed by more rain and a chance of snow by weeks end… “If you don’t like the weather”…
Have a wonderful evening! 1 week from today we will have a much longer evening 😊
“Come with me into the woods. Where spring is advancing, as it does, no matter what, not being singular or particular, but one of the forever gifts, and certainly visible.”

We are 2 weeks from the time change. We “Spring forward” Sunday March the 13th at 2am! Then only a week after that BOOM 💥 1st day of Spring! Rain and more rain 🌧 Wind 💨 Ice 🧊 Snow ❄️ – But still, Spring is Coming! This lingering winter weather and slow build up and transition is always what causes my Spring Fever 🌼 🤒 🌼

If nothing else, this energy for Spring gets me up and moving! Its Sunday and I’ve already done a full days work! 😊 The week ahead looks promising! I have a LOT of work to catch up on!
Even the Psalmist writes of a yearning in the scriptures – “I yearn for the Lord, more than watchmen do for the morning, yes, more than watchmen do for the morning.” ~ Psalm 130:6

I try to post good seasonal info to help you with your Ponds and Water Gardens. Water Temps impact feeding times for our Koi, which makes it a very important thing to keep up with! Sure enough, the days are getting longer and it’s almost that time again!

“I’ve been keeping a close eye 👁 my Pond Thermometer 🌡 these last few weeks! The temperature of the water has been steadily rising as the days slowly get longer… Today my water temp is 45 degrees F. What is yours?

I will start the feeding season with Cool Temp Koi Food when the water temp has stabilized at over 50 + degrees for several days. The “rule of 50” I like to call it 😊
So, lets wrap this little Pond Tip up…
The Rule of 50 = Let the water temp stabilize for a week or so at 50+ degrees Fahrenheit before you start to feed your koi this Spring. AND, when you do start back to feeding, use a quality, Cool Season Koi Food!
PS: Don’t over feed!
Happier days are on the way!
Spring is Coming!
Happy Pondering!

I’ve been looking at pictures from my recent trip and thinking about how Awesome it is that plants and animals know when we are going to have a big cold snap in Winter, or a hot dry Summer… Old school prognosticators have read plant and animal signs forever to forecast the coming of Winter, and it is very accurate!

I wonder if people down in Florida use the Manatee as a source? If not, I think they might be missing something… Florida just experienced a record setting cold snap including freeze and frost warnings all the way down to Miami 😳 BUT, somehow the Manatee’s knew it was coming…

We don’t have survival instincts like that… We have to learn how to live and survive in a changing world… Pretty cool 😊
What I do know is that Spring follows Winter! Spring is Coming! I have been consumed with thoughts and planning for the coming season. I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to get my hands back in the dirt!

It was 17 degrees this morning… But by mid week we will be close to 70!!! Boom 💥 Bring it!
“He knows no winter, he who loves the soil,
For, stormy days, when he is free from toil,
He plans his summer crops, selects his seeds
From bright-paged catalogues for garden needs.
When looking out upon frost-silvered fields,
He visualizes autumn’s golden yields;
He sees in snow and sleet and icy rain
Precious moisture for his early grain;
He hears spring-heralds in the storm’s ‘ turmoil
He knows no winter, he who loves the soil.”
