The New Handshake

I don’t know about you, but not shaking hands with people has been a tough thing to do… casual hugs 🤗 are a thing of the past as well… From childhood, I was taught that a good handshake was one of the marks of a good man! My dad and my grandfather both stressed this to me – “Good eye contact & a firm handshake”! My granddad even went as far as not trusting or respecting another person that had a weak or “limp noodle” grip.

A good Handshake is a big part of being an American! Now, with all the health
implications & social distancing practices, what will happen? What will be the New Handshake?

Social Distancing requires 6′ of distance between people, so even the fist bump is questioned now… How about an elbow bump? Or a thumbs up? Maybe the Indian raised hand sign or the old okie doak…

What is an acceptable hello, goodbye or gesture to ‘seal the deal’?

I have always loved the Vulcan symbol for goodbye –

I think I will use this one a bit

Until we get past this mess, I guess I will have to keep reminding myself NOT to offer a handshake… I have literally had to put my hand in my pocket to stop myself! It’s almost a reflex action! Until we figure it out, here are a few choices for ya’ 👇🏻

✊🏻👍🏻🙏🏻👌🏼🤟🏻🤘🏻👌🏼✌🏻✋🏻💪🏼🦶🏻👐🏻

Live Long & Prosper 🖖🏻

Ghost Town…

Social Distancing is apparently working now. I went to pick up a couple of things for family (curbside and click list only)… WOW! It’s like a ghost town out there.

This is a Saturday at 11am! About 8 cars in this 200 acre parking lot! WOW!

Almost no cars on the road, except for big trucks! I guess the silver lining is that the stores will be able to get restocked now…

Almost NO traffic! There are a few out on bikes or walking. Social Distancing is being taken seriously…

Please pray for the country! For all the folks that can’t work! And especially for all the people who have fallen ill to this terrible virus!

We will get through this! Lets stay vigilant through this fight for our families and for each other!

God Bless America!

Client & Employee Health Policy Update | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Good Morning, here’s a health update from Cartercountry…

“The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted and is continuing to impact our community. At Carters Nursery we value each customer relationship and see no reason, at the present time, to suspend our sales and design operations or otherwise cancel scheduled work.

We value the health and well-being of all individuals and want to do what we can to protect our employees, customers, and everyone with whom we do business. We are taking the following measures to keep safety as our top priority:

If we don’t shake your hand, please don’t take it as rude. We’re actually not shaking hands out of respect for everyone’s health right now.

Our office is disinfected for your safety and the safety of our team. Our retail office is open for sales & customer service, However, there is NO public restroom.

Sales representatives are sanitizing their hands before and after client visits.

Our employees will refrain from shaking hands or other close personal contact, with each other and with customers. We will keep an appropriate safe distance during conversations ( 6 feet is the recommendation).

Employees have been advised to stay home if they feel ill in any way. We are also bringing our own lunches to limit contact with restaurant employees.

While we typically enter your home to discuss your project, we will not be entering client homes for the next few weeks.

If the timeline on a project that is scheduled or waiting to be scheduled needs to change due to reduction in employee availability or other presently unforeseen circumstances, you will be contacted, and we will work with you to reschedule. We appreciate your understanding and patience. We are monitoring the situation closely by staying informed with the most up-to-date information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local Public Health authorities.”

Thank you,

Carters Nursery Management.

Thank You,

Washing your hands with warm soapy water for 30 seconds is the best way to stay clean. Hand sanitizer’s help, but washing is the best.

Social Distancing Is Real…

This Wuhan Virus has really caused a mess… Spring is finally here & everyone wants to get out and about! Spring break, Spring festivals, Florida beaches, March Madness, The Masters, Daytona… NOT SO FAST!

Data supports the idea that “Social Distancing” helps in an outbreak like we are experiencing. Does it suck? YES! BUT, it will save lives… Think of it as an extended Spring Break… A “Staycation” if you will.

FYI: We have canceled our Annual Spring Fest that we have hosted for 23 years! Our other Spring venues have shut down as well… No ‘Spring Fling’ for the Master Gardeners 😨 Even Disney World has closed… What does it all mean? I think it means we have to control our movements and actions for a little while to preserve the health of the country…

I copy pasted this from a good source. There is a live link to the CDC’s published guidelines here. Check it out 👇🏻

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued guidelines for “community mitigation strategies” to limit the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, which include recommendations for “social distancing”—a term that epidemiologists are using to refer to a conscious effort to reduce close contact between people and hopefully stymie community transmission of the virus.”

Washing your hands with warm soapy water for 30 seconds is the best way to stay clean. Hand sanitizer’s help, but washing is the best.

Dr. Ron Kirkland called in to the show yesterday (The 180) to talk about things that will help. Almost all were common sense & all benefit you greatly! Things like –

  •  Get 7-9 hours of sleep 😴
  • Drink Lots of Water 💧
  • Take Vitamin C
  • Eat Healthy!
  • Walk! Light exercise is good!
  • Get some sun! 20-30 minutes a day minimum!
  • Keep your hands clean! etc…

Hang in there, this too shall pass! Wash your hands, Cover your sneeze 🤧 & discipline yourself NOT to touch your face. Eat right and get plenty of rest. Sounds pretty doable to me… In the long run, this will make us stronger!
