I’m the worst about planting to early before the “Last Frost Date”… Depending on who’s frost chart you use, our last frost date is somewhere between March 31st. and April 15th.
Frost Advisory TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING!
I normally wait until April 15th before planting my tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, squash, melons, etc… But as a Nurseryman, I have to be ready with plants in stock! So we have moved plants back inside – tender growth shrubs, flowers, hanging baskets, flats of sedum, roses, and so much more! AND, I still have to get the rest of our houseplants back inside… UGH!!!
I hate to do it, but it beats all my plants getting frost-burnt or even worse – Dead… Gotta move em back in…
This isn’t a ”Late Frost” by any means… It has just been so warm that this is a Surprise! So I thought I would share the news, just in case you havent heard 🥶
📢 Spring is Here! Cover your Plants! 😊

Saying goodbye to April is sad, BUT – Hello May! Here’s a reprint from May Day past…
WOW! Maybe it’s just me, but this year is flying by…. Today is MAY 1st.! AKA: ‘May Day’…
In the old days as April rolled to an end, people would gather flowers and candy to put in May baskets to hang on the doors of friends, neighbors and loved ones on May 1, aka; May Day.
“May Day” can mean a few things – Like – Mayday, Mayday! ie; Help!!!
May-day – noun – 1. an international radio distress signal used by ships and aircraft.
Kids dancing around the ‘Maypole’.
OR it could be an age old celebration of Spring moving into Summer – May Day dates way back to ancient times and is traditionally celebrated with dancing and singing and feasting and the like 🙂
In Hawaii May 1st. is called Lei Day… They eat traditional foods and celebrate Island culture. And yes, every one gets Lei’d! 🙂 Let’s go to Hawaii! 🙂
But for me, May 1st. is the date that I use as my planting guide! It’s the date that I start planting in earnest. Annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, melons, etc.!!! It’s on!
May 1st. is a GREAT date to start planting Annuals, Perennials, Vegetables, Herbs, Aquatic Plants, etc. We are LOADED with Plants for you at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN
We had a long Winter & a cold, wet Spring so far, but fear not! May is where it all changes! 🙂
