Carter's Water Garden

Sunday Reflection’s…

West Tn. weather is crazy, but still very seasonably predictable… The blackberries are in bloom once again & boom 💥 here comes a cold front that drops the temps overnight. Cool and crisp this morning and it feels SO GOOD 😊 I love me some ‘Blackberry Winter’…

Enjoy this day and this lovely little cold snap… knowing that soon, Summer Heat will be upon us! And, it will be time to pick blackberries once again 😊

“I see blackberry winter’s here
that very special time of year
when thorny vine’s small pure white bloom
announces colder weather’s doom.

It’s cold enough to wear long sleeves
to ward off spring’s last chilly breeze
yet warm enough up in the day
to show that cold won’t long hold sway.

The flower of this lowly berry
reminds that summer won’t long tarry.
This mini-season won’t last long
so don a coat and tag along.

We’ll both enjoy this evening’s nip
hands in each other’s loving grip
and gaze into each other’s eyes
as stars replace the clear blue skies.

As whippoorwill gives serenade
from ‘cross the pond in brushy glade
beneath a blanket we’ll start to plan
vacation on the ocean’s sand.

But in the back of cozy mind
all thoughts of winter left behind
tiny voices, soft and sweet
reminds that next comes summer heat.”

I’m off for an adventure… Y’all have fun 🤩

Throwback Thursday | Pickled Peppers 🌶 & Guitar 🎸 Pickin’

This popped up as a Facebook Memory today and it’s very timely in more ways than one!

It’s pepper picking time! It’s also pepper pickling time if you have a bumper crop!

My friend and fellow guitar 🎸 picker Willi X Evans posted this on Facebook 7 years ago and it popped up as a memory this morning! Perfect timing in more ways than 1! Not only is it pickling season, it’s Moonlight Pond Tour 🌝 season as well! And Willi has played the music at more Pond Tours than any other band or musician! 💥 Come see Willi X – Live! at Carters Nursery Saturday, September 18th. For our Annual

  • Moonlight Pond Tour!

Here’s the Video 👇🏻

By the way, here’s Willi’s recipe for the Pickled Peppers 🌶

So here goes –
INGREDIENTS

Makes 4 — 8 ounce jars

4 8 ounce mason or ball jars with lids and seals

Approximately15 jalapeno peppers sliced

Approximately 8 Cayenne peppers sliced

2 Cups white vinegar

1 Cup water

1 tsp pickling or Kosher salt

4 Cloves of garlic

INSTRUCTIONS

Sterlize jars and lids by placing them carefully in a pot of boiling water for at least 15 minutes
Use tongs to remove jars and lids and place on a clean towel to dry
Prepare peppers by slicing them or piercing them
Make the brine by combining the vinegar, water and salt to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes
Meanwhile place the peppers in each of the 4 jars filling them up and place one clove of garlic in each
Pour brine over peppers in each jar (should be about 1/2 cup per jar)
Secure lids tightly on each jar
Bring water to boil in sterilizing pot again and submerge the 4 jars in pot — covering jars about 1/2 way
Let boil for about 30 minutes
Carefully remove jars from water with tongs and set to cool
As jars cool, listen for the lids to snap indicating a secure seal — if jar doesn’t seal, store in refrigerator
Wait a least a week before opening properly sealed jar and refrigerate after opening”

Have a great #Throwbackthursday!
