Carter's Water Garden

Sunday Reflections…

It’s Thanksgiving week! 🦃 And Thanksgiving Dinner is at my house! I’ve been thinking about all the work I have to do this week to prepare… Making a list… But, at least the menu is set… I got ham again

Im doing the ham again… Ya’ gotta love ham!

I also got the sweet potatoes 🍠 But I’m putting a different spin on it this year … Instead of the regular ”Sweet Potato Casserole” you may expect… I’m Doing a Sweet Potato Bar instead! You get a whole, baked Sweet Potato & you top it yourself! Brown sugar, butter, marsh-mellows, candied pecans, fresh cinnamon, whipped cream, etc!

I’m doing a ‘sweet potato bar’ this year. I’m envisioning a great success 😊

And I always fix several pecan pies from my MiMi’s recipe…

My family loves PIE! Heres a few I fixed for Holidays past… 2 Pecan and 3 French Coconut 🥥

Everyone else is bringing something as well, can you say Feast! There will be Family and friends and LOTS of good food! I have a LOT to be Thankful for! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I am also very aware of the men and women who serve our country 🇺🇸 and will be unable to return home for the holidays. We owe them a very special Thank you and prayer ❤️🙏🏻

And there are so many around that don’t have as much to be thankful for… Many that even dread the holidays. I know I need to do my part to help others as well…

Well, with all that being said, I better get started…

Have a Thankful week 🙏🏻

“Give me the end of the year an’ its fun
When most of the plannin’ an’ toilin’ is done;
Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,
Let me sit down with the ones I love best,
Hear the old voices still ringin’ with song,
See the old faces unblemished by wrong,
See the old table with all of its chairs
An’ I’ll put soul in my Thanksgivin’ prayers.”

Friday radio report – Spring Fever is setting in! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Well, the show today was a LOT of FUN! Dan Reaves and Sea Bass are the BEST! LOTS of calls & if I learned anything today, it’s that we are ALL ready for Spring! I’m going to list a few questions below from todays show with a little info and a basic answer. If you need more info, feel free to give me a call at the Nursery – 731-424-2206.

  • Will there be any Azalea damage from the cold weather? Answer – Probably. We got COLD! For quite a few days in a row too… Sub zero a few nights, so I expect to see some damage across the board. Especially with Encores. -Fertilize in mid to late February with Milorganite and keep your eye on them. You’ll know whats up soon enough.
  • When can I sow fescue grass seed? Answer – Late February is a great time to seed Tall Fescue. Take time now to pull a soil sample. Apply lime as needed. Make sure to aerate the soil before seeding to improve germination & always fertilize.
  • Its about time to start cleaning up & trimming the roses. Mid to late February depending on weather.
  • Apply dormant oil to your fruit trees. Clean-up fallen leafs and debris and prune as needed.
  • Its time to fertilize your pecan trees. Make sure to get a fertilizer for pecans with added zinc. Pecans needs zinc. Clean up leaves and debris from below the tree! Very important for pest control.
  • Can I clean out my Koi Pond now? Answer – Yes you can start cleaning your ponds up right away. Trimming back plants, cleaning out leaves and debris, restacking any fallen stones, touching up gravel and mulch, replace light bulbs and/or fixtures, etc… Clean out filters and water change &/or a full cleanout. Inspect pumps and plumbing, etc…

Again, it was a great show! Hats off to Dan Reaves! and of course – Sea Bass and all the fine folks at 101.5 FM!

Tune in again next week to 101.5fm. on Fridays from 10-11am. and call or text us YOUR Gardening or Outdoor Lifestyle questions!
