Happy New Year! 💥🎉 Welcome 2019!

Happy New Year! 💥🎉

Another New Year = A clean slate. A blank canvas. An open road of possibilities! I for one am excited! I hope we all make the best of 2019 and beyond.

2019 = An open road of possibilities! Let’s make the most of it. Happy New Year!

Last year I decided to set a goal, to do a daily Blog & not to miss a day… Today that goal was fulfilled 😊 It’s been a lot of work! But also a LOT of FUN! I’ve learned quite a bit about myself by committing to this daily task. This year I plan to keep on Blogging… Not every day in 2019, but weekly and more. Thank you for subscribing to my blog and reading what I posted. I watched my #’s go up & up & up all year! Hopefully it will keep growing and the inspiration will keep coming!

Commitment to a daily blog was the toughest and the most rewarding thing I did last year. Today marks the 1 year anniversary- 365 consecutive days of Blogging…

Now, I’ve got to get busy cooking! Our family always gets together on New Years Day and eats the traditional meal (Pork, greens, black eyed peas & Cornbread) – I’m in charge of the Peas & turnip greens this year 😊

I LOVE our New Years tradition of eating dinner with the family. We always have fried Hog Jowl, Black Eyed Peas, Turnip Greens & Cornbread! Plus much more … Happy New Year 🎊

New Years Traditions! | Question – What Do You Eat On New Years Day?

Lets see a show of hands from those that eat “New Years Dinner” as a tradition… My family does and it is something that I look forward to every year!

I LOVE our New Years tradition of eating dinner with the family. We always have fried Hog Jowl, Black Eyed Peas, Turnip Greens & Cornbread! Plus much more …

We talked about the tradition on the radio yesterday and it made for quite the topic! So many people do this! But, the foods vary depending on where your from. Down South, our family meal is fairly standard – (pork, black eyed peas, greens & cornbread), but in other parts of the country different foods are enjoyed – Fish, lentils, soba noodles, soup and cake are just a few things that I heard about that surprised me. COOL!

In our tradition each food also has a symbolic meaning.

Greens represent… Yes! MONEY! Makes sense to me.

Cornbread represents… GOLD! ie: More $$$! BAM!

The Hog Jowl, or Pork represents health and affluence.

And finally Black Eyed Peas = LUCK! Pass The Peas Please!!! The peas confused a few people. WHY do they give you luck I was asked. Great question I said!

I was always told from childhood to eat my peas for good luck! I read a story that goes way back to the civil war. Black eyed peas were called field peas back in the day and were mainly used to feed livestock. But, during the Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Civil War the town and all the people were completely cut off from getting supply’s for months! They got so hungry that they resorted to eating the livestock feed, (ie: black eyed peas) to keep from starving! In fact, they realized that they were ‘Lucky’ to have them! Thus was born the legend of the ‘Black Eyed Peas”!

I hope you ALL have a VERY Happy New Years celebration with friends and family and enjoy those traditions that are most important to you and yours!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Do YOU Believe in New Years Resolutions?

Resolution?

Res-o-lu-tion / reze’looSH(e)n / noun

A firm decision to do or not to do something. Synonyms : Intention. Decision. Aim. Plan

Goals are important! But, IF you want it to stick – you better have a plan!

New Years bring out the best intentions in all of us I think. BUT, old sayings ring true… “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”!

Saving money and loosing weight are the top 2 things people are planning to do this year! BUT guess what? Less than 10% of people actually succeed with their resolutions… WOW!

Last year my resolution was to blog everyday in 2018! It hasn’t been easy, but I worked at it everyday & I did it 😊 So I know that you can achieve your goals too!

We ALL want to get better & do better, It’s just in our nature. BUT, to really succeed, you have to have a good plan, written down, that you can go back to and use as a reminder over and over! Nothing comes easy… So my advice is not to get caught up in the New Years Resolution craze! Simply make your plans, carefully and realistically, and work everyday to see them through!

Happy New Year everybody! 🎆
