What a Beautiful spring morning! The birds are singing, the air is crisp and cool and the whole Landscape is in Bloom! 💐 When I saw these Iris blooming in the forefront, I knew where todays inspiration was coming from ❤️ My Grandmother planted these Iris many moons 🌙 ago.

As you know Thursday on Facebook is considered “Throwback Thursday” by many… People across the globe post old photos of family, friends, pets, etc. – memories of all kind. I have posted many myself 🙂 This morning I was looking over the gardens around the nursery and saw that the Iris’s are starting to bloom. These ‘Bearded Iris’ (Iris germanica) are very special to me and bring back a lot of memories. It made me think about the Throwback Thursday thing …

The Iris is our State Flower in Tennessee. The Iris takes its name from the Greek word for rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris – pretty cool!
The Iris was designated the Tennessee state cultivated flower by the Legislature in 1933. My Great Grandmother remembered when that occurred – She was born in the late 1800’s.
Do you have any old ‘heirloom plants’ that bring back memories? Some folks call them ‘Memory Plants’… I have many around the nursery that do just that. I actually remember the day that my grandparents started developing that flower garden. It’s still there all these years later 🙂 To me, thats the ultimate ‘Throwback Thursday’!
Many of the plants in the gardens around the nursery were planted by older family members that are gone now… It’s nice to watch them grow and bloom every year. So many memories have been made in the garden. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN
