Yes, the main body of the migration is upon us! I have had 2 Hummers here at the nursery since around the 4th or 5th of the month! Earliest ever for me! I am putting out more feeders today 🌞 I looked back at past blogs to track their arrival over the past years and 10 years ago, almost to the day, I posted about having our first at the feeders. I took a screenshot of the 2010 blog 😊 👇🏻
Once they get here, it’s officially Spring!

I thought I saw my first hummingbird a few days ago & wondered if I was seeing things? I always leave a feeder on the front porch, even through the winter – Just in case… That is on the advice of Mark Greene, aka: ‘The Birdman’. I went in immediately and made more nectar & hung another feeder outside. And sure enough, we have our first Hummers! WooHoo! 💥 I LOVE em’! Hummingbirds mean Spring is Back!

I love my little buddies 😊 They make my day when they show back up in Spring! Time to get feeders out 😊
In case you don’t already know… Clean up & wash your feeders & make some Nectar for them. It’s simple to do & it’s the best feed you can get! No need to buy mixes.

“When the hummingbird sinks it’s face into the trumpet vine, and the funnels
Of the blossoms and the tongue leaps out and throbs,
I am scorched to realize once again how many small, available things are in the world
That aren’t pieces of gold or power —- that nobody owns
Or could buy even for a hillside of money —- that just float about the world,
Or drift over the fields, or into the gardens, and into the tents of the vines, and how here I am
spending my time, as the saying goes, watching until the watching turns into feeling, so that I feel I am myself
A small bird with a terrible hunger, with a thin beak probing and dipping and a heart that races so fast
it is only a heart beat ahead of breaking—- and I am the hunger and assuagement, and also I am the leaves and the blossoms, and, like them, I am full of delight and shaking.”

Hummingbirds are such tiny little creatures. But, their personality’s are YUGE! I LOVE them 😍 I grow plants and vines that they feed from as well as make nectar to keep many feeders full for them. I know how much YOU love them too… So I thought I would start squeezing a cool Hummingbird fact in on ya’ from time to time…

I love my little buddies 😊 They make my day when they show back up in Spring & it’s always sad when they head South in the Fall.
Interesting Hummingbird Fact #1 – Did you know Hummingbirds have the least # of feathers of all birds? It’s true. They say on average a medium sized Hummer has around 970 feathers… Wow! I ❤️ Hummingbirds!
The Hummingbird
A route of evanescence
With a revolving wheel;
A resonance of emerald,
A rush of cochineal;
And every blossom on the bush
Adjusts its tumbled head,–
The mail from Tunis, probably,
An easy morning’s ride.

When the hummingbirds are back around the nursery, it’s like magic to me. They have all the available flowers you can imagine, plus multiple feeders – They are in heaven too I think. I’ve been watching a few buzzing around this morning while I do my watering… It never gets old 😊
This beautiful poem sums it up…
“When the hummingbird sinks it’s face into the trumpet vine, and the funnels

As I sit listening to the morning birds welcoming the day, I’m a happy man 😊 The chirping of Hummingbirds is back too! My Koi are eating like crazy! All the trees are coming out beautifully & it seems the whole world is in bloom!
Like some of you, I go through a tough time in the Winter months… I literally get “depressed”… They call it – Seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Lack of energy, moody, easily agitated & not sleeping well are all symptoms of SAD… BUT, the change of the seasons seems to melt it all away & I feel alive and well again 😊 Think “Spring Thaw”!
So, bye bye grumpy & Hello to my favorite me! Spring is here! And Summer is right around the corner 😎
Happy Pondering 🤔

I got “Buzzed” by my first hummingbird this morning! Lookout! 👀 I now have several feeders out and I am ready for them to come back in number for their yearly visit! I LOVE feeding and watching them 😊

There’s always one Hummer that shows up first and lays claim to the feeders 😊 I Love watching him try to run everyone else off so he can have it all 😎
Do you make your own Hummingbird Nectar? If not, quit buyIng the pre-mixed stuff and try this simple recipe.
Hummingbird Nectar recipe
4 parts HOT Water
1 part Granulated Sugar
Mix/stir together in a container until the sugar completely dissolves, let it cool and pour it in your feeders. No need to boil unless you have poor water quality. So Simple 😊 I make it a gallon at a time and keep it in the fridge.
They LOVE this simple recipe & keep coming back day after day, year after year. There is No Need to add red food color! In fact, many say that it’s harmful to them.
It’s HUMMINGBIRD time in Tennessee y’all!
