Carter's Water Garden

Waterfall Wednesday | Carters Nursery Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

What a Beautiful spring morning! The birds are singing, the air is crisp and cool and the whole Landscape is in Bloom! 💐 When I saw these Iris blooming in the forefront, I knew where todays inspiration was coming from ❤️ My Grandmother planted these Iris many moons 🌙 ago.

These Iris have been here for over 50 years. They just get more beautiful as time goes by…

#Waterfallwednesday is always a great day! Old memories just make it even better 😊

Sunday Reflections…

I had to put my jacket on this morning when I walked outside with my 1st cup of coffee 🥶 It was a little chilly… BUT, it’s supposed to get up to 78 degrees this afternoon 🌞 Great news! A little more great news, we have ‘probably’ gotten passed our last frost! Can you say Spring Planting Time!

One of my New Years Resolutions was to grow more Tomato’s 🍅 Game on!💥

I’m heading back inside to make another pot of coffee and fix some breakfast… Then its on!

Creamy grits with a fried egg 🍳 One of my ’go-to’s’…
Its Sunday! Don’t forget the 🥞

My advice is to get out and enjoy this beautiful day! 🌞

“The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March.”
~ Robert Frost

Have a great Sunday!

2021 is Coming! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

We are at the end of 2020! As the last few days count down, I find myself doing what I always do this time of the year… Planning! Getting ready for next season! I’m hopeful that the coming spring will bring a more normal season for us all! Last years entire event schedule was ruined by COVID-19… NO workshops, no pond tours, no seminars, nothing got to happen. So, I’m really excited and hopeful, that things are going to be much different in this new year!

Every year I sit down and plan events with a fresh new calendar. This new year will be no different! If you fail to plan, your planning to fail! I’m looking forward to a better 2021!

We also plan to eat our traditional New Years Meal! Hog Jowl, black eyed peas, cabbage, greens, cornbread & more! These old traditions must live on!

I LOVE our New Years tradition of eating dinner with the family. We always have fried Hog Jowl, Black Eyed Peas, Turnip Greens & Cornbread! Plus much more … I’m ready to Welcome in 2021!

In any case, 2021 Is Coming, ready or not… Be ready 😊

Enjoy the beauty Now! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

This lockdown has really shook up spring 2020! The clock is spinning fast and we are flipping calendar pages without really noticing the changing of the seasons.
My advice- Get outside and see the beauty that’s happing before the Spring is gone…

Azaleas, Dogwoods, Iris & more are in full bloom right outside your window. Don’t miss it!

“How many million Aprils came
before I ever knew
how white a cherry bough could be,
a bed of squills, how blue
And many a dancing April
when life is done with me,
will lift the blue flame of the flower
and the white flame of the tree
Oh burn me with your beauty then,
oh hurt me tree and flower,
lest in the end death try to take
even this glistening hour…

~ Sara Teasdale

Spring is here! Just looking at the landscape in your yard or along the fence row can really put a smile on your face 😊

Have a great Tuesday!

Hump Day Koi Fix | The Rule Of 60 | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio

Spring is in full swing! We are past our last frost date and the whole world is greening up, I LOVE it! So do my Koi! 😊 They have been tearing up the Cool Season Koi Food and the veggies I have been feeding them. In fact, many of my customers and fellow Koi enthusiasts have been feeding Cool Season Food & have asked me the all important question…

– When can I start feeding regular and Color Enhancing Koi Food?

My Answer- Remember the rule of 60!

When the water temperature has stabilized above 60 degrees Fahrenheit you can switch to a Higher Protein or a Color Enhancing Koi Food. We like to call it the ‘Rule Of 60’… | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

We have covered The Rule of 50 in previous Blogs, when coming out of Winter into Spring, you must let the water temp stabilize for at least a week at 50+ degrees Fahrenheit before you start to feed your koi. AND, when you do start back to feeding, you should use a quality, Cool Season Koi Food! And don’t over feed! Gradually reintroduce food to them in small amounts.

Now, at least for me (check your thermometer) it’s time to make the transition to a regular Koi Food. In fact, I will start to feed both high protein and color enhancing feed, alternating weekly between the two.

Every Pond should have a floating Pond thermometer. Our finned friends are cold blooded & water temperature is very important when it comes to seasonal feeding times. Pick one up at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

So to wrap it up, check your water temp & when your above 60 degrees for several days in a row and climbing, you can transition to warm season Koi Food. That’s the “Rule of 60”… 😉

Viva La’ Spring!

Happy Pondering 🤔
