A Gift With Love And Meaning ❤️

I bet a Lot of you have watched and enjoyed the movie Lonesome Dove 🕊 It is one of my favorites of all time. I really like old Gus, he’s one of the most colorful characters in the movie for sure 😊 When they hit the trail going north, he made sure his old Livery sign went with!

One of my favorite movies 🎥My wife made this sign as a gift for me recently. I LOVE it!

Cut to reality… My wife & I recently celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. I took her on a “Antiquing, Junking, Pickin Trip” to celebrate, which I thought was pretty good 😎 But she topped me! She prepped, painted and lettered me a replica of Gus’s old sign for my “junk wall” (don’t ask)…

Did you ever wonder what that Latin phrase at the bottom meant?

uva uvam vivendo varia fit

It literally means – a grape changes color (ripens) when it sees another grape.

I wondered on that for quite a while. I think it means that when you see another person like you, in spirit or soul – that you make each other better (ripe)… I think that’s an Awesome metaphor for a great friendship or marriage. ❤️

I guess we are just a couple of old grapes 🍇 😊

Peace, Love, Gifts with meaning & Old Grapes 🍇

May Day – May Day | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Saying goodbye to April is sad, BUT – Hello May! Here’s a reprint from May Day past…

WOW! Maybe it’s just me, but this year is flying by…. Today is MAY 1st.! AKA: ‘May Day’…

In the old days as April rolled to an end, people would gather flowers and candy to put in May baskets to hang on the doors of friends, neighbors and loved ones on May 1, aka; May Day.

“May Day” can mean a few things – Like – Mayday, Mayday! ie; Help!!!

May-day – noun – 1. an international radio distress signal used by ships and aircraft.

Kids dancing around the ‘Maypole’.

OR it could be an age old celebration of Spring moving into Summer – May Day dates way back to ancient times and is traditionally celebrated with dancing and singing and feasting and the like 🙂
In Hawaii May 1st. is called Lei Day… They eat traditional foods and celebrate Island culture. And yes, every one gets Lei’d! 🙂 Let’s go to Hawaii! 🙂

But for me, May 1st. is the date that I use as my planting guide! It’s the date that I start planting in earnest. Annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, melons, etc.!!! It’s on!

May 1st. is a GREAT date to start planting Annuals, Perennials, Vegetables, Herbs, Aquatic Plants, etc. We are LOADED with Plants for you at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

We had a long Winter & a cold, wet Spring so far, but fear not! May is where it all changes! 🙂
Happy “May Day” & Happy Gardening!

Friday Radio Report | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

GREAT show today with Dan & Sea Bass – “The 180 Crew”! But I almost had to take a boat! Rain Rain! WOW!

We got LOTS of calls today! We talked about everything from –

  • The days are getting LONGER as we approach the Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year)!
  • How can I grow a Lemon Tree? Go with a Meyers Lemon, use a quality, well drained potting mix and fertilize with a citrus fertilizer (it will have need trace elements and micro nutrients). Place where it will get plenty of sun and bring it in before frost this Fall!
  • How to trellis grapes – more info on an upcoming blog!
  • HOW to fix green water in my pond. In this case I think it’s lack of biological filtration. The caller is coming in to the nursery and we will help them find a balance.
  • We talked a lot about Rock – N – Dough’s Brunch – & the main questions was – “To brunch or not to brunch”? 🙂
  • Can I use MSMA for my lawn weeds now? YES!
  • When is the Parade of Ponds? Saturday, June 23rd.! 9am – 4pm. THEN we have an after party at the nursery from 8-10PM (The Moonlight Luau)!

I hope y’all enjoyed the show! I know I had fun as always!
