No matter what the weather or the day of the week, when you have living things that depend on you, you take care of it. Life on the farm, life in the garden, in the greenhouse, the backyard and the living room too…
So knocking out todays check list took a little longer than expected… but it got done, and then we had brunch 😊

Later this evening we’re gonna have a good bonfire 🔥 Nothing much better than that…
“Every day—
Sunup, sundown—
You will find
A chore ‘round.
Forget the list
Of things “to do, ”
One never finishes,
Nor is through.
They multiply
Throughout the day…
Won’t go away.
They’re here to stay.”
~ Walterrean Salley
Have a great Sunday!

Labor Day Weekend… It’s definitely nice to enjoy a few days off! There are still things that we have to do of course, but since we live at the Nursery & Gardens we also work for a living… It’s just another day in our routine…
Or is it?

I was reflecting on my labor in life, and In many ways my labor is my life… I mean, I literally live at the Nursery/Farm that I work for a living… There are no days off when there are plants to water (or they die!) and animals to feed & water (or they suffer &/or die)! So I have done what anyone in my situation has to do, I have embraced it wholeheartedly! And I LOVE my Family! My ‘everyday’ Lifestyle! And I LOVE MY Job! ❤️
“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
~ Saint Francis of Assisi
Happy Labor Day 🇺🇸 to everyone that Labor’s out there! I hope you love your job too! 🙏🏻

I got up with the sun, fixed coffee, put on my garden shoes on the porch and haven’t been back inside yet… Again, short handed at the nursery and so many chores to do… even on the sabbath 🙏🏻 But I feel good with it, (see Luke 14), when Jesus demonstrates to the Pharisees that some emergencies must be dealt with immediately, even if it means breaking the sabbath to do so… Ox in the ditch… Or in our case, watering to keep plant stock alive… And to beautify the landscape❤️

Even tho we are working 7 days a week right now, I know at the end of the day that I’m a very lucky and a very blessed man! 🙏🏻
“Come, fill the Cup, and in the Fire of Spring
The Winter Garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To fly–and Lo! the Bird is on the Wing.”

Have a wonderful Sunday Afternoon!

What a gorgeous morning! We started around 30 degrees with full Sun ☀️ and it has steadily warmed… It will be mid 60’s soon and it sure is nice 😊

We are gonna work in our yard a bit today, burn some leaves and maybe some steaks 🥩 on the grill as well! A little glimpse of Spring is pretty sweet on a Sunday! 🙏🏻

What a day! it started early and is just now slowing down… I spent some time working in my gardens today. Beautiful, mild, late Fall day❤️ So nice out. That is changing now with the approaching cold front. Powerful storms, wind and rain coming. This will be the last of the ”Leaf Strippers” as Bill Way used to call em’. We are now really entering into a Winter look, bare trees will be awaiting Spring… Heres a few last pics of my Landscape color to enjoy…

We are only 16 days from the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. From now until that day, our daylight time shortens by 1 1/2 minutes each day 😳 BUT, after the 21st., the days start to grow longer again! That is when we are officially on the road to Spring! 👏🏻 Bring it says I!
So, lets enjoy our short Christmas season we have left, and be ready for an early Spring! 💥
“From December to March, there are for many of us three gardens –
the garden outdoors,
the garden of pots and bowls in the house,
and the garden of the mind’s eye.”

For the first time in years I slept past 8am on Sunday morning. It was good sleep 😴 but… Sleeping in, ain’t what it used to be 😊
Brunch is on!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday! Always a fun day! And a milepost in the seasons for my business! For Carter’s Nursery, Tomorrow is Super Bowl Monday! A day when we start LOTS of seasonal Landscape chores… So I got that goin for me 😊
Question- Who are you pulling for in the big game? For Jo and I, we got Brady’s team – The Buccaneers 🏴☠️ 🏈 The biggest reason, besides the fact that Brady is probably the best ever at his position (Quarterback), is that The night that Jo had our son Jacob, was the very night that Brady made his first mark on the NFL winning a snowy game against The Raiders to move forward into the Super Bowl – His 1st. Super Bowl win! Can you say “Tuck Rule”… 😳. She laid there, in labor, and watched the entire game with me! At times of serious pain, she would ask, what’s going on? What’s the score? How’s Brady doing? A football 🏈 fan was born! And, a beautiful, bouncing baby boy to boot! Boom💥 Yes, that’s 6 B’s in a row! Thank you, thank you very much!
No matter the outcome of today’s game though, we will have fun watching it!
Have a great Sunday! And, Go Bucs!🏈💥

We try to help people learn how to take care of their Ponds throughout the seasons in an efficient manner. One important way to stay ahead of water quality issues in the Fall is to cut back and remove the Aquatic Plant waste before frost. And more importantly, before it gets to cold to get in your pond…
My Pond Tip today is – Start sooner than later on Seasonal Aquatic Plant cutback & cleanup!

What do I need to do to my Pond in the Fall? I get this question a LOT at Carters Nursery Pond & Patio this time of the year! #1 Cut those aquatic plants back!
Aquatic Plants are a big part of a healthy ecosystem! They absorb all manner of pollution and nutrients from the water and store them in their plant tissues helping to clean and purify the water. BUT, if the plants are allowed to die and decompose in the pond all those nutrients and compounds are released right back into the water! This will create YUGE Water Quality issues! Algae blooms, Green Water, Bad Smells & Fish Health issues – even fish death 💀!

Yes, you even need to cut back your Lotus plants. AND, sink their containers to a lower depth in your pond to protect them from Winter temps | Carter’s Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN
Trimming your Aquatic Plants back is fairly simple to do, It doesn’t take too long & it will pay dividends in Water Quality & Fish Health!
If you have any questions or need some help, feel free to give me a call at the office – 731-424-2206
Thanks & Happy Pondering 😊

I thought March 21st was the 1st day of Spring? Well normally yes, but sometimes the 20th is it… But never the 19th or the 22nd… NOT SO FAST!
Several factors have caused this earlier than normal Spring date. I have attached an article from the Farmers Almanac below that explains the whole deal. Check it out 👇🏻
Like I’ve been saying all this time –
“Spring is Coming”! Boom 💥
