Yesterday I blogged about Waterfall Wednesday. I showcased a Water Garden we built over 25 years ago. Well, that Segway’s me into today’s Throwback memory. Water Gardens are pretty special! They touch all your senses at once… They also touch your heart ❤️ You literally fall in love with your Pond Fish! Especially the Koi.
I literally hand delivered these fish to this new Pond around 27 years ago 😳 They have grown and matured and literally become beloved, named pets!
I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or just an impeccable memory, but I literally remember these fish! It’s funny how you remember things sometimes… But this one makes me smile 😊
I was going through some stuff and came across this old matchbook and Boom 💥 Flashback 💥 I swear I could hear the crack of the break and the smell of draft beer 🍺 I was taken back to Buddies Place on Liberty street… Talk about a Throwback Memory 🤩
I spent much of my young life at Buddies. My Dad and my Uncle Carlis were up there constantly. Shooting pool and visiting with friends. Cecil was someone I always looked up too from the time I was a little boy. Mrs. Mary that ran the bar during the day was a close family friend and I grew up with her grandsons. Ricky and Professor were also like family.
Cecil always used matchbooks as his business cards. I found this one today and it really took me back. How many of you also called Buddies a second home? Literally a place where everyone knew your name and you felt good about being there 😊
Most of the old Southern Pool Rooms are gone now… There will never be another Buddies! If you ever went up those stairs, you know what this means! Great #throwbackthursday !
Buddies was even memorialized in a George Dickel Whiskey ad… I wasn’t working there anymore when they shot this ad, but I was there that day and watched them do it. It was pretty cool 😎 They brought in a few props and things for the shoot, and it really captured the feel of the old place.
It’s always nice to look back on good memories. Throwback Thursday is one of my favorite days!
A timely throwback memory. My cousin Kim is in town for graduations and a few other things, so I pulled up a few old pics and made a little collage of Kim and family down through the years. Cousins are very special family! We are as close as siblings and even better friends than if we were brothers and sisters 😊
It’s so nice getting to spend some time with family that you grew up with. Lifelong memories ❤️
Are you on Facebook? If not, you might find this interesting 🤔 If you are, then you know of what I speak… Everyday I get a picture that I personally posted, usually years ago, it just pops up in my home feed, it’s labeled as a “Facebook Memory” and it tells you exactly how many years ago that you originally posted it. Then you get to look back through the comments and likes, and if you want you can share it as a Story or to your feed and friends. At first, I didn’t know what to think about it, but I have grown to enjoy them and I usually share them again.
These pictures of our work that I have posted from years ago, just pop up as a “Facebook memory”… Actually pretty cool 😎 | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee
Today’s memory was 3 years old. A couple of days ago it was a 7 year memory that I had forgotten about…
What do YOU think 🤔 about the way social media like Facebook has changed our daily lives? How, if any, has it changed yours?
“Memories, brought to you by Facebook”…
Screenshot of what it looks like on your device. Do you look at these? Do you find it charming, or invasive? Just asking…
I have grown to think that it helps me share what I do. Our work at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio is so visual! It’s hard to describe what we build so that you can form an accurate picture in your minds eye… So that picture you see, of what your backyard could actually look like, is worth a thousand words…
I’m writing this outside and it’s starting to rain 🌧 I hope you enjoyed it 😊
I was messing with some pictures of tree faces to make a little blog about some of my favorites, when my son walked up and saw these two… He says “it’s like a 30 year before and after of you”… I died laughing 😝
In a way I see what my son means 😂 There is a similarity…
Anyways… There’s today’s blog… It’s a Blog about… Nothing! Hmmmmm… Sounds familiar 😊
#Throwbackthursday is always fun! Here’s my Throwback memory from 2019. Just a collage of pictures of friends and family from last year for my blog/journal.
2019 was a great year! I did a little “Throwback Collage” of friends and family memories.
Here’s my contribution to the day! Have a great #throwbackthursday !
Is there something that you can think of that the smell or taste of it would make you sick? I have to confess, I do! When I was a kid, health was a big deal in my family! Eating right, wearing comfortable shoes, getting the proper sleep, brushing your teeth & being “regular” in the bathroom were all stressed! If you weren’t up to snuff on any of these daily rituals, there was a cure waiting for ya’ with my Grandad! He would say, “I got just the thang to sweeten you up and make you feel good”! His remedy – Sal Hepatica!
In a way I guess this stuff made me stronger? At least it made me act stronger 😂 If you said you felt bad in front of my Grandad, he would make you take a dose of this stuff 🤢 So if he ever asked, “How ya’ feeling boy?” My response was always – “I’m feeling great, Grandad!”
Now I don’t know if any of you remember this stuff, but if you do, you will remember it well! It’s a phizzy, bubbly, salty Laxative that you drink… #1 you gotta Choke it down! It tastes HORRIBLE! #2 you better be near a toilet! Cause as soon as you drink it, “This is Happening” takes on a whole new meaning!!! 😵
I hated this stuff so bad, I always faked incredible health around grandad even if I felt like crap 😂 💩 He would strait up make you drink some Sal Hepatica! They finally stopped making it, which was a Great day in our family!
Tomorrow is my 26th wedding anniversary! This bottle was one of my presents from my wife! My “Sal Hepatica Stories” inspired my wife to buy me this old bottle for my collection 😊 You don’t know how much that makes me smile! She’s too cool! 😎
IF, any of you have a Sal Hepatica story of your own, please share it here on my blog or on my Facebook page. I’d love to hear it!
Thanks for reading to the end of this random story… Have a great day!
