Monday Morning Moment Of Zen | Koi | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

It’s a bit warmer in the Koi house so they get to start eating a little earlier than Koi who live in an outdoor Pond. I know you all are ready to get back to feeding them again, but it’s not quite warm enough yet… So I though you might enjoy a glimpse of what’s to come 😊

Spring is coming quick! Are you ready?

Who’s ready to enjoy a ‘Moment of Zen’ by their pond again? 😊 | Just Remember the Rule of 50 & be ready, because Spring is Coming!

Have a Zen filled Monday & a GREAT week!

Monday Morning Moment Of Zen | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, Tennessee

Yesterday evening into last night was so nice. We finished the evening outside by feeding the Koi. It was quiet & so pleasant, very… Zen like 😊

I hope this short video of the Koi brings a little Zen to your morning.

Happy Pondering 🤔

When Do I Stop Feeding My Koi in the Fall? | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

We have had a long, HOT Summer and have enjoyed feeding our ‘Finned Friends’ every day 😊 But now we are going into the cooler months of the year and one of the most asked questions I get is – “When do I STOP feeding my Koi in the Fall?”

A very important tool to have in your pond is a simple pond thermometer. When temps drop below 60 I start feeding “Low Temp. Fish Food” & some fresh fruits and veggies like peas, oranges, grapefruit & carrots. | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

It’s very important to take your fish into the colder months as healthy & happy as possible! They are cold blooded and their metabolism will soon slow to a crawl! So feeding the right foods now will really help them for their long journey through Fall & Winter.

At 6o degrees I discontinue regular Koi Food for Cool Season Food. I also start giving them some daily treats like fresh or frozen veggies and fruits like (peas, carrots, grapefruit, oranges & melon). These food are a good source of vitamins & minerals and help to ready them for the Winter.

Get your Cool Temp Koi Food at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN                                   After the water temp drops to 55 degrees I slow my feeding down to 1 time per day with just cool temp Koi food. Then after the water has reached 50 degree’s F. (sustained around 10 days time) STOP all feeding until Spring!

This is tough on me… BUT, I know it’s something that I have to do for their overall health. Feeding them when their metabolism is in Winter mode can/will kill them! So even on a warm day when they are literally begging for food – DON’T DO IT!

And don’t forget – keep the skimmer free of leaves & other debris and keep dreaming of Spring 😊 It will be coming before we know it!

Happy Pondering!

Monday Morning Moment of Zen | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Monday = Funday when you have pets like these to feed every morning 😊 This morning before the sun started to come up… They are so happy to see us and they LOVE to eat and then sweep the entire Pond. I hope this adds a little “Zen” to your morning.

Hump Day Koi Fix | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

A few years ago we had a run on a very popular type of Koi. It wasn’t just here in West TN either. Several of our friends in the business including some Koi breeders couldn’t keep up with the demand for them. These beautiful, very popular fish are know as – Yamabuki Ogon.

Notice the unblemished head and clean body of this Yamabuki Ogon. These are very important traits of a high quality Koi.

A Yamabuki Ogon is a Koi with a solid metallic/yellow color as pictured above. There are a couple of variations of the Yamabuki Ogon, to include the Gin Rin Yamabuki Ogon & the Doitsu Yamabuki Ogon.

These are one of my favorite Koi to this day. So beautiful and friendly. If you don’t have one in your collection, check these beauties out. They make great ‘Finned Friends” 🙂

Happy Pondering!
