Guess What Next Saturday Is??? Say It With Roses 🌹 | Carters Nursery Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

The Rolling Stones guitarist Kieth Richards famously wrote in a song ”Send me Dead Flowers” 🎶… I say don’t send dead ones! Say it with LIVE Roses 🌹

A bouquet 💐 of dead roses for Mom? Or a couple of LIVE roses bushes that will make memories for years!💥

Come by and get a rose bush for Mom! Help her plant it, you will both enjoy it for years to come…

PS: You can thank me later 😉

Sunday Reflections…

Well, the first week of Spring has been exciting as advertised! Plants, Ponds, Stones and Boulders have been flying! Today – Grass to trim, bird feeders to fill! Including the Hummingbird Feeders that we have recently put back up for our returning babies ❤️ But not until we eat Breakfast!

Country Ham, eggs and biscuits! Suey!!!

Jacob also insists on getting a haircut today, so Jo made quick work of that!

Decent pile of hair came off that boy!

Just to prove my point that its a lot of hair… It didnt take much shaping of the pile to reveal a “dead dog” 😂

Anyway… It turns out that our son was under that pile of hair too 😮 WOW!

I would have kept going… But it turned out well 😊

The Barber came to cut my hair,
I told him that it wasn’t fair.
My hair had done him no harm,
Without it I would loose my charm.
The Barber he grinned a silly grin,
Said to cut my hair would be no sin.
That I should face it like a man,
But I’m a coward and away I ran.
Do you like sitting in a Barbers chair,
With him chopping away your lovely hair.
Once my head was full of curls,
Covering my face with twisty twirls.
But then the Barber came my way,
I was a child, I had no say.
Off came my curls one by one,
The Barber seemed to have great fun.
Now I’m old and very grey,
I’m nearly bald, my hairs gone away.
But when I see a Barbers chair,
I feel the loss of my curly hair.
You know I truly rue the day,
When that first Barber came my way.

Have a great Sunday Evening!

Sunday Reflections…

We are 2 weeks from the time change. We “Spring forward” Sunday March the 13th at 2am! Then only a week after that BOOM 💥 1st day of Spring! Rain and more rain 🌧 Wind 💨 Ice 🧊 Snow ❄️ – But still, Spring is Coming! This lingering winter weather and slow build up and transition is always what causes my Spring Fever 🌼 🤒 🌼

Spring Fever is real! Heres a quote from a few years back – ”Back when the phrase first appeared in the U.S. in the 1850s, spring fever meant “the listless feeling caused by the first sudden increase of temperature in spring,” according to one dictionary.”

If nothing else, this energy for Spring gets me up and moving! Its Sunday and I’ve already done a full days work! 😊 The week ahead looks promising! I have a LOT of work to catch up on!

Even the Psalmist writes of a yearning in the scriptures – “I yearn for the Lord, more than watchmen do for the morning, yes, more than watchmen do for the morning.” ~ Psalm 130:6

Spring is Coming!

“Is the Spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”… “It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine”…

~ Frances Hodgson Burnett

Have a great Sunday!

Sunday Reflections…

Cold morning🥶 I stepped out with my coffee ☕️ for a minute, yep… right back inside I came! I am being totally honest when I say… Come on Spring!

Business took me down to a place of perpetual Spring/Summer for a few days. It was nice, but I think it made my Spring Fever worse…

I’m a guy that LOVES the growing season! Spring is my favorite time of the year! So much life & renewal happens in Spring. I guess my recent trip south just pushed me closer to the edge… So I will share a few pictures of things to come! It may just help tide us over 😊

Enjoy your Sunday! Its actually going to get up into the mid 40’s today! 💥 Were having a heat wave 🔥 A tropical heat wave 😊

“Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle … a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl.  And the anticipation nurtures our dream.”

~ Barbara Winkler

Sunday Reflections…

Well the new year is off and running 🏃‍♀️ It went from 75 degrees with a south wind yesterday to 23 degrees, high wind and snow today… But, thats life in West TN 😊 We got a LOT done in the house today. All the Holiday deco put away for the year and the house looks ready for Spring. We had a great late morning brunch…

Country ham, eggs and pancakes with whipped butter, maple syrup and coffee…

Followed by one of my wife’s favorites for dinner 🍲

Chicken tortilla soup is a favorite around here. I was gonna make a big pot of Chili, but ended up making a big pot of soup and way too much rice 😊 Im betting this will all get eat!

Not a bad start to the year if you ask me 💥

“January is here, with eyes that keenly glow,
A frost-mailed warrior
striding a shadowy steed of snow.”
  ~ Edgar Fawcett

Happy New Year!

October is flying by 💨 Its just a few more days till Halloween… I was looking through some older images of Halloweens past and when I came across this one I knew it had to be todays #Throwbackthursday memory.

I remember this night! We spent the evening carving 🎃 baking pies and watching scary movies 👻 Sounds like a great plan for tonight!

Sunday Reflections…

What a beautiful morning! A quick, early walk this morning was perfect! Leaves are really showing color now 🍁 and many are falling in good number… Its about time for a good early Fall clean-up and burn 🔥 It really helps clear the way for later in the season.

Then its back in the house for breakfast 🥞 🍳 No brunch today! Too much to do and see outside on this gorgeous Fall Day! 🍁🍁🍁

Pancakes 🥞 on Sunday is kinda the house rule…

Only 1 week from today is Halloween 🎃… Get out and look around before the show is over!

“October is the month for painted leaves. Their rich glow now flashes round the world. As fruits and leaves and the day itself acquire a bright tint just before they fall so the year near its setting. October is its sunset sky; November the later twilight.”

~ Henry David Thoreau

Sunday Reflections…

Good day to everyone! Just finished a great brunch and sat down to finish my Blog that I started late last night… We finished up our last event of the season last night, and it was a FUN one! A local artist and friend for over 30+ years, Matt Brown came to the nursery last night with a literal truck load of art and paintings and we set up our Nursery as his Gallery of Art 🖼 We called it ’Art in the Garden’ and it was a very unique and a very special evening. We even set up a ’Blacklight Room’ in the Koi Shack to showcase some of Matts unique pieces. I’ll tell the rest of the story with a few pictures of last night.

Matt Brown (featured artist) and Charlotte Powell Vaughn (his mom) and Conor McGregor… 😊

What a great evening! Matt and I have been friend’s for many years now, Maybe its because we both work with our hands to make unique, artistic creations? Our mediums are very different, but I think his Artwork within the gardens and by my Waterfalls was pretty Awesome! And it brought a bunch of people out to enjoy a night of Art and enjoyment, another win-win!

PS: We are gonna do this again! 💥

“Each of us are flowers in the garden of life we bloom,
We all bring a different light to brighten the daily gloom.
We all posess great potential to inspire our fellow man,
To offer peace and love is a choice we all should plan.
We can each bring joy to a life filled with sadness,
Just through a soft touch or word spoken in gladness.
We can also bring peace to those with a troubled mind,
Bring hope to a broken heart joy from the daily grind.
For every flower has something beautiful to share,
That has special meaning to someone, sometime, somewhere,

But our time is short, just like a season,
As autumn advances with purpose and reason.
We all have these gifts and we must take a chance,
If we spread peace and love it’s the garden we enhance…

Enhance the garden…
Spread the love… The peace will follow…”

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
