Carter's Water Garden

Sunday Reflection’s…

What a week! In one week we have seen record lows and freezing weather, severe storms, damaging winds and now it’s sunny and in the upper 70’s… Springtime in Tennessee is exciting I tell ya’! We just finished our 1st garden show of the season! It was nice to see everyone out and ready to start another growing season! So much happens now! But, for today I get a slight reprieve… It’s Sunday Morning! Breakfast with family and lots of good Coffee are 1st on the list this morning ☕️

After breakfast we are gonna do some things in the garden. I’ve gotta get moving… Have a great Sunny Sunday!🌞

“The word ‘March’ comes from the Roman ‘Martius’. This was originally the first month of the Roman calendar and was named after Mars, the god of war.  March was the beginning of our calendar year. We changed to the ‘New Style’ or ‘Gregorian calendar in 1752, and it is only since then when we the year began on 1st January. The Anglo-Saxons called the month Hlyd monath which means Stormy month, or Hraed monath which means Rugged month. All through Lent the traditional games played are marbles and skipping. The games were stopped on the stroke of twelve noon on Good Friday, which in some places was called Marble Day or Long Rope Day.  The game of marbles has been played for hundreds of years and some historians say that it might have been started by rolling eggs. In the past, round stones, hazelnuts, round balls of baked clay and even cherry stones have been used.”

It’s gonna be a nice week!

Sunday Reflection’s…

Aren’t internal clocks great 😊 I was up very late last night/this morning (1:30am), visiting, talking and picking up from our annual Moonlight Pond Tour. And even though I had planned to ‘sleep in’ my eyes 👀 popped open like clockwork at 5am and I was wide awake… My internal clock must be a Timex 😊

It was a perfect night for a Garden Tour! Thanks 🙏🏻 to everyone that came out and made this a success! ❤️

And by all other accounts, it was a great week!

  • I got to catch up with friends on the river
  • Successful Pond Tour fundraiser
  • The weather was great!
  • A great friend turned 50!

But the 1st thing I thought about when my eyes opened this morning was what happened on this day in 2001… 9/11

A Heavy blow was struck against all Americans that day.

• 2,977 Americans were Murdered!

• 343 Firefighters died saving others! Many that survived are dying from cancer now at an alarming rate! Thank a Firefighter today…

But – We survived! We united! We rebuilt! 🇺🇸

All these other good things that happened for me this week, and every week before, and every day after today has been possible because of the sacrifices of past generations of Americans! We stand up! We fight for the freedom of others! We rebuild when things get torn down! God Bless America 🇺🇸

“Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul …”

Sunday Reflection’s…

Labor Day Weekend… It’s definitely nice to enjoy a few days off! There are still things that we have to do of course, but since we live at the Nursery & Gardens we also work for a living… It’s just another day in our routine…

Or is it?

This is my immediate family captured in an image.. by a very good photographer I might add 😉

I was reflecting on my labor in life, and In many ways my labor is my life… I mean, I literally live at the Nursery/Farm that I work for a living… There are no days off when there are plants to water (or they die!) and animals to feed & water (or they suffer &/or die)! So I have done what anyone in my situation has to do, I have embraced it wholeheartedly! And I LOVE my Family! My ‘everyday’ Lifestyle! And I LOVE MY Job! ❤️

“He who works with his hands is a laborer.

He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.

He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”

   ~ Saint Francis of Assisi

Happy Labor Day 🇺🇸 to everyone that Labor’s out there! I hope you love your job too! 🙏🏻

Sunday Reflections…

Light rain falling this morning. Cool air. Last day of July… Lazy Sunday! We have been so busy and it has been so Hot and Dry… This rainy, cool day off feels like a blessing 🙏🏻

“A break in the heat
away from the front
no thunder, no lightning,
just rain, warm rain
falling near dusk
falling on eager ground
steaming blacktop
hungry plants
thirsty
turning toward the clouds
cooling, soothing rain
splashing in sudden puddles
catching in open screens
that certain smell
of summer rain.”
–  Raymond A. Foss

Have a great ’Lazy Sunday’…

Throwback Thursday | #Throwbackthursday | Ice Storm 1994 vs 2022

I was awoken this morning early by cracking and falling trees… I hadnt heard anything like it in decades. The last time I heard that noise Jo and I were newlyweds. It was 1994… Do you remember the Ice Storm of 94’?

There was nothing subtle about the 94 Ice storm! It tore everything down in Jackson! We were without power for WEEKS!

I think this years ‘Unexpected’ Ice Storm is much more manageable, but, there is still quite a bit of damage. And many are without power… Ive got quite a bit of clean up to do as soon as this melts a bit.

Until then, I’ll try to find the beauty in the ice…

I hope your damage was light and your familys are warm and safe! 🙏🏻

Snow Daze…

What a beautiful day! Snow was falling before the sun rose this morning and continued till well after lunch ❄️ So we checked on all the features at the Nursery, fed all the animals and took a Snow Day!

Bell sure did have a good time playing in the snow today!
Jacob and Bell.
Jo and Jacob are looking good on this snowy morning ❄️❤️
We even took some group photos with Hat and wardrobe changes involved… Jo loves to take pictures when it snows 😊

Its been a long, cold, FUN day! 😊❄️☃️

Stay warm ❄️

Sunday Reflections…

Well the new year is off and running 🏃‍♀️ It went from 75 degrees with a south wind yesterday to 23 degrees, high wind and snow today… But, thats life in West TN 😊 We got a LOT done in the house today. All the Holiday deco put away for the year and the house looks ready for Spring. We had a great late morning brunch…

Country ham, eggs and pancakes with whipped butter, maple syrup and coffee…

Followed by one of my wife’s favorites for dinner 🍲

Chicken tortilla soup is a favorite around here. I was gonna make a big pot of Chili, but ended up making a big pot of soup and way too much rice 😊 Im betting this will all get eat!

Not a bad start to the year if you ask me 💥

“January is here, with eyes that keenly glow,
A frost-mailed warrior
striding a shadowy steed of snow.”
  ~ Edgar Fawcett

Happy New Year!
