Does Anyone Love You More Than Your Dog?

All my memories as far back as I can recall, involve a dog. “Mans best friend” didn’t get to be their calling card for no reason! I really believe that Dogs make us better people…

Just look at that face. This is Tracker. She was a great girl.

Yesterday we all got out to do a few things in the snow and ice. Long story short, I twisted my ankle a bit… And Scout is stove up a bit today as well. But, when she saw me in pain, she crawled over to me this morning to let me know that she loved me. Your dog wants to take care of you more than their self… What an admirable trait.

Believe it or not, my dog loves watching the sunset. Maybe it’s because we are watching and paying the setting sun ☀️ attention, but he loves it too ❤️
Let’s play in the snow! ❄️
One of my favorite pictures! My Dad, my 1st dog Heidi & Me wearing my his hat and coat 😊
Always ready to have some fun.

Im gonna try to be more like my dogs from now on. I think if we all did, the world would be a better place😊

Ice Storm ⛈ Prepper…

It’s the talk of the town! The stores are packed! Good luck finding fresh loaf bread 🍞 and sweet milk… Kerosene is in high demand! And there’s a line at the gas station ⛽️ Will there be an ICE STORM?!

It’s rare for a painting to capture the ‘essence’ of an event. But, I think this one does 😊 Why bread and milk you ask? 2 words – French Toast! 💥

I have lived through a few pretty good ice storms myself! The first was in the early 70’s and it shut the whole town down! Then another around 1985 – pretty bad, but power was back up in a matter of days, so not too bad. Then the big un’ in 1994! Jo and I were newly weds and I remember it well! We laid in the bed and listened to the trees breaking and falling and watched the lights go out… They didn’t come back on for over 3 weeks 😳 But, we had candles, kerosene heaters, a gas cook stove and plenty of Love ❤️ So, it wasn’t that bad 😊 But, I’m sure not hoping for a repeat!
If your a prepper, have a few essentials and be careful trying to get out in the roads until the ice melts. That’s the biggest danger most of us will face – a wreck on icy 🥶 roads…

Take care of your Koi and your other pets during times of unusual cold! Remember- Don’t break the ice on your Pond! And Bring those pets inside when it gets bad! Love your pets ❤️

Don’t break the ice! It will harm your Koi!

They are getting ready to spray salt on the roads now… Y’all be careful 🙏🏻

“The iceman was coming, t’was ice that I smelt Another ice storm, was about to be dealt More ice to be salted And more ice to melt I’m no fan of ice, and that’s how I felt.”

If You Don’t Like The Weather, Just Wait a Few Minutes…

It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring- And that old tune is right on the money today! WOW what a storm! 40+ mile an hour winds too… But the kicker comes tonight!

This is so true! The weather is changing today! Thunder storms and high winds with temps in the upper 50’s will change over the next several hours to an ice and snow mix with temps in the LOW 20’s! 😲

I think one of the most important things to remember is our pets. The temps are gonna go LOW & will stay that way for several nights – and they will need a little shelter.

We’re gonna be cold for the next couple weeks. Don’t forget – If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.

Stay warm folks! And have a Great Weekend!

Winter Temps Are Re-Tweeting – Be ready | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

It happens every year – The weather moderates and we all feel like it’s almost Spring – Then, out of nowhere an arctic blast comes blowing in… and Its so easy to be caught off guard. I’m sending this little reminder to hopefully, help you be ready 😊

To Do –

  •  Winterize garden hoses, again…
  • Get your pets taken care of! They depend on us to take care of them & keep them warm 😊

It’s fixing to get COLD! Take care of your pets! If it’s too cold for you – it’s too cold for them…

We’re gonna be cold off and on for the next couple weeks. Don’t forget – If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.

Pond Owners Survival Kit –

– Have a dry hose available “just in case”! And I always have an adapter for my sink faucet. It helps to really be prepared for a BAD cold spell!
– Have a 5 gallon bucket set aside just for your pond. That bucket can really come in handy if you just need a little water or need a trash pail to clean up some leaves damming up the stream or waterfall!

FAQ #1 – What do I do if my Pond freezes?

ICE SAFETY: #1 NEVER, NEVER, NEVER break the ice by banging on it! It can cause your fish to go into shock! To allow the escape of gas & exchange oxagen, keep a hole open in front of the skimmer or on the ponds surface if you don’t have a skimmer. This is IMPORTANT!!! It will keep the gases from building up under the ice and suffocating your fish. This will also allow the pump to get water if surface is frozen. You can also keep a hole open by use of a floating De-Icer or by adding warm water from a water hose, bucket or pan of water. (If you use your water hose be sure to drain it when finished-to keep it from freezing and bursting, or keep it in your garage)

If you turn your pond off in a bad freeze, use a floating heater/de-icer to maintain a hole in the ice to exchange gases/oxygen for your fish’s health and well being. You can purchase a floating pond heater at Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio.

Also, there is Good Stuff Too 😊

WINTER BEAUTY: Leaving your waterfall running all season in our part of the country is not a bad thing. As matter of fact, it will give you some beautiful photo ops. During the fall & winter birds love to come to your pond to drink fresh water, and in winter months, the running water will make some breath taking natural ice formations/sculptures. So keep your camera handy. And get some close ups. BUT – be sure to watch out for ice dams! These can cause your pond to lose some excessive amounts of water. If this happens add water back in to your pond with that dry hose we talked about earlier to bring your water levels back up.

Snowy, icy weather brings the birds to your Pond & to your feeders! They come all day to get a drink and even bathe. I LOVE to photograph birds in our landscape and at our feeders! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Birds come all day long to get a drink and even bathe. Try setting up some feeders in your viewing area and watch them flock to food & the WATER!

I hope this helps! If your prepared, a winter ❄️ storm ian enjoyable, beautiful event.

Happy Pondering!
