Pond Tip Tuesday | Keep Those Aquatic Plants Blooming! | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Here we are already past the mid point of July… Your Waterlilies are still blooming, but they seem… tired 😓 All those fantastic blooms, take a LOT of energy! NOW is the time to prepare your Lilies and Lotus for the ‘Late season push’…

Giving your aquatic plants a little trim and feeding them with some easy to apply aquatic fertilizer tabs will help them to perform well into the Fall season!

My Pond Tip today – Keep your Aquatic Plants fed and trimmed.

Try doing these 2 things and you can thank me later

#1 keep your lilies & lotus fed (fertilized) to keep them performing into late summer and fall. It’s very simple to do! Come by and grab a container of Aquatic Plant Fertilizer Tabs. One of us will show you how to poke em’ down into the root zone of the plant… and your done… It’s that simple

Your Aquatic Plants will flourish with a little TLC. Do it now and enjoy them all the way to frost in late October.

AND #2 is to keep your aquatic plant growth in check! All this Warm weather has them growing like weeds

  •  selectively trim marginal aquatics to keep in check and to promote strong compact growth.
  • remove yellowed unattractive Lilly pads & spent blooms to Promote new growth and bloom.
  • Keep Waterfalls & streams free and clear of excessive plant growth and debris! A plant dam will cause a leak every time!

That’s my Pond Tip for the week. It will keep your plants in top shape well into Fall & it will get you up and out in the garden for some much needed “Aquatherapy” 😊

Have a great night!

Throwback Thursday | Water Lilies | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Yep, it’s #throwbackthursday once again and this memory just popped up in my Facebook feed and provided the perfect inspiration. Aquatic plants are some of my favorites! And this beauty is hard to beat ❤️
Say hello to – Nymphaea ‘Red Flare’

This night-blooming lily produces magnificent magenta red, flowers that are held high above the waters’ surface. These fragrant blooms can stand 7″ to 10″ tall 🤩 Did I mention that they also bloom at night? Yes, the blooms open in late evening and bloom all night and into the early morning. A total show stopper!

Red flair is one of the tropical lilies that I always try to procure for my own Pond. They achieve the “trifecta”… Beautiful, Fragrant and a Night Bloomer! Boom 💥

Well, that’s my offering for Throwback Thursday!

Have a great evening 😊

Pond Tip Tuesday | Design Tips For The Perfect Pond | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio

Water features are popping up everywhere and it seems everyone wants a backyard Pond or Water Feature.

Water features come in many forms… Bubbling Fountains, Pondless Waterfalls, Ornamental Koi Ponds and so much more! My single biggest request is to design and install Custom Residential Watergardens and Ponds! Everyone wants their own personal Oasis! And Why Not? They add so much to your life. But remember, If it’s worth doing , it’s worth doing right.

Like any project you undertake , you should first do some research and gather info .

– First , look around at some local Water Features and talk to some people who have one in their life. Identify some interesting design elements that you like and may want to incorporate into yours. Streams, bridges, lighting, fish caves, waterfalls, jets, etc, etc…

Go on a Pond Tour! There’s no better way to see some awesome Watergardens and talk to actual Pond owners than on a Pond Tour ! I have been on dozens of Pond Tours all over this country and there’s no better way to learn about what its like to have a Waterfall in your own backyard than on a good Pond Tour! In fact, we have our Annual ‘Moonlight Pond Tour’ coming up on Saturday, September 18th.! See some gorgeous Ponds and Waterfalls with extensive night lighting. You will find Inspiration and ideas galore! 💥

– If and when you need some help with your design, call a professional Pond Designer! When I need help outside of my Specialty, and I want something done right the first time, that’s what I do. AND – Be choosy! Make sure your dealing with a qualified Waterfeature Specialist ( like a C.A.C. – Certified Aquascape Contractor ), PS: it’s probably NOT the guy mowing your grass… Check references! Look at Their work (older and more recent)! And Always get a written contract! I have successfully installed thousands of Water Features over the last 32 years and would be more than happy to help you in your quest for the perfect Backyard Water Feature!

Getting a Backyard Pond is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do for yourself!

Viva La’ Ponds!

Waterfall Wednesday | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

What a beautiful day! Kinda cold 🥶 this morning, but a gorgeous sunrise and the birds are singing and the whole world is in bloom it seems 🌺 Perfect setting for a #waterfallwednesday.

Today’s offering is a recent Waterfall “Re-do”. We call them “Facelifts” 😊 Check out this before and after…

The homeowner loved the sound of the falls, but not the look… So he called us in to talk Redesign. We tore it all down, added proper filtration, a new liner and built them a proper Waterfall. What do you think?

These jobs are many times the most fulfilling. We turn a problem into your favorite thing about your backyard 😊 Feels good!

I hope you all enjoy the day! Life is too short not too ❤️

Peace ✌🏻 Love ❤️ and Waterfalls 🌊

Pond Maintenance Tips | Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN 38305

We try to help people learn how to take care of their Ponds throughout the seasons in an efficient manner. One important way to stay ahead of water quality issues in the Fall is to cut back and remove the Aquatic Plant waste before frost. And more importantly, before it gets to cold to get in your pond…

My Pond Tip today is – Start sooner than later on Seasonal Aquatic Plant cutback & cleanup!

What do I need to do to my Pond in the Fall?  I get this question a LOT at Carters Nursery Pond & Patio this time of the year! #1 Cut those aquatic plants back!

Aquatic Plants are a big part of a healthy ecosystem! They absorb all manner of pollution and nutrients from the water and store them in their plant tissues helping to clean and purify the water. BUT, if the plants are allowed to die and decompose in the pond all those nutrients and compounds are released right back into the water! This will create YUGE Water Quality issues! Algae blooms, Green Water, Bad Smells & Fish Health issues – even fish death 💀!

Yes, you even need to cut back your Lotus plants. AND, sink their containers to a lower depth in your pond to protect them from Winter temps | Carter’s Nursery, Pond & Patio | Jackson, TN

Trimming your Aquatic Plants back is fairly simple to do, It doesn’t take too long & it will pay dividends in Water Quality & Fish Health!

If you have any questions or need some help, feel free to give me a call at the office – 731-424-2206

Thanks & Happy Pondering 😊
