Events for the 2012 Season.

Feb 24, 25 & 26 – West TN Lawn & Garden Show: @ Jackson, TN. Fairgrounds Come on out and see our Display! It will be an early SPRING!

March 24 – Spring Expo/Customer Appreciation Day at Carters Nursery. Come take part in our Workshops & Classes! FREE LUNCH for ALL that come! Petting Zoo & Pond Rides for the kids! BIG SALES for the Spring Season for all that come! Y’ all Come!

March 30 & 31 – Memphis Master Gardeners Spring Fling. At the Agricenter in Memphis.

April 21st. – “Getting Started with an Organic Vegetable Garden” We will show you how to prepare and plant an organic garden of your own! Get your hands dirty or just watch and have a good time!

May 19 – Our ‘Spring’ Pond Tour. 1st. of the season! (Sat. after Mother’s Day) – A FUN and Beautiful Day! This is a Self Guided Tour and this is a Fundraiser for the Jackson Humane Society. Tickets are $10 ea. (kids under 12 are FREE!).

June 2 – Butterfly Release: (1st W/E in June) We will have 2 great speakers, a class on creating your own butterfly garden & a LIVE BUTTERFLY RELEASE! Bring the kids AND bring a CAMERA!

June 23 – Our ‘Summer’ Pond Tour (Sat after Father’s Day). A FUN and Beautiful Day! This is a Self Guided Tour and this is a Fundraiser for the Jackson Humane Society. Tickets are $10 ea. (kids under 12 are FREE!). This is also the night of the “Moonlight Pond Party”! This is a DON’T MISS event!

July 14 – Summer Seminar: – Getting started with Water Gardening This is a GREAT Seminar for someone who is interested in getting or building their own Water Feature! We will go over EVERYTHING from design to installation and we will actually build a running waterfall at the class. Please call to register for this class.

September 29 – Moonlight Pond Tour (8th Annual). This is our Annual Night Time Pond Tour! It actually falls on the Full ‘Harvest’ Moon this year! Don’t miss this Unique Garden Tour Experience!

Things to do in my garden…

I went out this morning to look around my garden to find something that I could get into… So I started a list. I ended up with a pretty good amount of work to do… So I started with planting some left over bulbs I had in my shed. They are daffodil bulbs and they are still firm and in good shape.It’s a bit late in the season, but I’ve done this before with good results, and I hate to let them go bad. I will look forward to seeing how they come out in Spring.

Another trip around the sun now begins! 2011 just flew by for me and I am so looking forward to getting into this new year. I am going to get out in the garden more this year than last! I am going grow more tomatoes than last year! I am going to put up more chow-chow and pickled peppers than last year! These are a few of MY “New Years Resolutions”… The most important one is – GET OUT IN THE GARDEN! I walked around this morning right after sun rise, what a beautiful morning! You can’t grow much this time of year, so I found myself messing with my waterfalls… I cleaned up some leaves and cleaned my pond skimmer. The birds are really active! It’s going to be a GREAT year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I wish you all an AWESOME 2012!

Water Gardeners Fall Checklist

I publish a Seasonal Maintenance checklist for every season each year. I hope this helps you with the enjoyment of your Water Feature! Viva la Autumn!

Plants and Debris: Remove leaves, plant debris and other organic matter. Large amounts of leaves and debris settled in the bottom of your pond can cause poor water clarity over the winter which is harmful to your fish. It can be a breading ground for fungi and or harmful bacteria and parasites. If you don’t have a dipping net, get one! This will make your life so much easier.

NETTING: Netting your Water Garden during the fall will help control leaves and debris and checking your skimmer regularly during heavy leaf falls will keep your pond in proper working condition. This will also make your SPRING cleanout easier.

FISH HEALTH: When water temps reach 55 to 60 degrees switch to low temp fish food available at Carter’s Nursery. Their metabolism slows down during lowering temps and LOW TEMP FISH FOOD will be easier for them to digest. It will also extend YOUR season with your Koi! I am still feeding my fish and it’s the middle of November! When you end feeding you should always follow up with a Medicated fish food.

BACTERIA: When temps drop down to around 55 o 60 degrees you can switch to Low Temp Bacteria for a healthier pond and an easier start up in Spring. Using Low Temp. Bacteria is one of the BEST things you can do to help your Winter Pond!

Fall is here and with Fall comes our Annual Moonlight Pond Tour. This is my favorite Pond Tour of the season! If you have never been, grab some friends and/or family and come on this tour. Many go on Garden Tours through the season, but very few have ever been on a night time tour. Folks, it’s Unique, Beautiful and totally worth the trip! It will open your eyes to the ‘Night Garden’. It will open this concept for you and you will LOVE it! Hope to see you here. 13th. Annual Fall Festival

Don’t miss this years Fall Workshop and Festival. This is our way of saying THANK YOU to all of our customers and friends in the community. From Workshops to Pumpkin Carving & Face Painting to a full fledged Petting Zoo there will be LOTS of FUN for the whole family! And we are even cooking lunch for everyone!

We will go over ALL the things you will need to know about your Water Garden to help you get through the Fall and Winter seasons. No matter if you’re new to the hobby or an old pro, there will be something for you. We will cover plant and fish care, seasonal pond maintenance, when to start using Cool Temp. Koi food, Cool Temp. Bacteria and much more. We will spend the day helping you with these things and we will have FUN doing it.

We will have a great ‘Hands On’ Pumpkin carving class, face painting AND an AWESOME ‘Petting Zoo that the kids will LOVE! There will be some HUGE sales during this event, so don’t miss out on the savings! Mark will also have the grill going at lunch with hotdog’s, smoked sausages, chips, cookies and drinks for everyone. The Moonlight Pond Tour Follows The Hunters Moon Oct. 8th.

Our 7th. Annual Moonlight Pond Tour is coming soon and you don’t want to miss this Wonderful Night! This is the original and only Garden Tour of it’s type in the state of Tennessee! This Water Garden Tour was founded and is hosted each year by Carters Nursery, Pond & Patio of Jackson, TN.
The Moonlight Pond Tour takes place each fall and coincides with the full moon. The tour showcases Ponds, Water Gardens, Pondless Waterfalls, Disappearing Fountains and Koi Ponds, all under a Gorgeous ‘Moonlit sky’ and is enhanced by AWESOME Landscape Lighting.

Now in its 7th year, this self-guided Moonlight Pond Tour features favorite Ponds from years past along with some awesome new Water Gardens to enjoy! This is a self guided tour and is easy to follow, so tour at your own pace! Most of the stops are close together and the signs and map booklets are wonderfully easy to follow.

The Jackson Madison County Humane Society receives all the money from the tickets we sell for the tour! We truly love and support our Local Humane Society and we Support their Mission in our Community! With your support we can really help them. It’s a Win-Win! Have fun and help a worthy cause!

Container Water Gardening

Container Water Gardening is HOT! Everyone wants a Water Garden and many are choosing a Container Water Feature for their home. They are easy to create, inexpensive and will fit in most any area. You can totally transform a patio, deck or even a room of the house with the sound of water with one of these features. We will look at several different types of Aquatic Containers that you can use and a whole variety of beautiful Aquatic Plants that you will love.

Water Gardening 101 – How To Design and Build your Own WaterGarden

Everyone wants their OWN Water Garden! After you have attended this class, you will have a firm grasp on HOW to do it yourself!

We will discuss Design ideas, placement of your Water Feature, what type of materials are best use, how much the materials will cost and much, much more.

Then, we will actually build a Waterfall and install some Aquatic Plants in a Pond here at Carters Nursery. Bring a pair of boots and gloves if you want to get dirty or just come and learn from the guys who do it for a living. We should be finished with the Waterfall by 11:30 or so, then we will all watch it SPRING to life when the pump is turned on. It’s gonna be fun.
